PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kita Zen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shane MacLain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). MacLain has chosen Drowning Pool - Bodies (Let The Bodies Hit The Floor as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kita Zen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 21 - 1, fighting out of London, Shane MacLain!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Chris Downing and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zen shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has MacLain pinned against the cage. MacLain gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
MacLain has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Zen throws a head kick but MacLain moves out of range.
Horrible takedown by Zen or perhaps it was just good defense by MacLain which made him look bad.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Zen jumps guard and drags MacLain to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Zen is adopting a defensive guard.
MacLain must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Zen is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
MacLain tries to stand but Zen is controlling from the bottom.
MacLain is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Zen escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. MacLain gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Zen utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

MacLain wants to pass the guard but Zen is keeping the position.

MacLain postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Zen is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of MacLain, into his guard.

Zen sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed MacLain's guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
MacLain looking for submissions off his back.
Zen takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Zen is trying to control the action in half guard but MacLain is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

MacLain has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Zen can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Zen stands and throws MacLain's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Zen tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Zen is trying to get an arm triangle but MacLain is defending well.
MacLain tries to get back to half guard but can't.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
MacLain is trying to get back to his feet.

MacLain misses with a left hand

and Zen counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Zen.
Zen landing some nice looking knees to the body.
MacLain avoids the elbow strike from Zen, against the cage.
MacLain blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Zen has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics MacLain uses from the top position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
MacLain trying to stand up but can't free himself from Zen's guard.

MacLain wants to get up but he can't break Zen's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Kita Zen overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells MacLain's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
MacLain connects with a couple of short punches.
Zen throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
MacLain pushing down on Zen's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

MacLain is looking to clinch but Zen is avoiding it.
Zen throws a head kick that misses
and MacLain cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
MacLain swinging wildly here.
MacLain will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
MacLain throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Zen's waist but Zen gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing MacLain off to one side.
Zen shoots in for a double leg but MacLain sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Zen thows a body kick. MacLain tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Zen shoots in looking for a takedown. MacLain tries to sprawl out of it but Zen keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. MacLain manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Zen gets caught napping as MacLain dives in and scores a takedown. Zen manages to retain guard.

Zen wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and MacLain manages to pass to side control.

MacLain working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

A close second round but Shane MacLain will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


MacLain shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Zen but Zen pushes him off and we're back to square one.
MacLain tries to clinch up but Zen circles away and keeps his distance.
A jab lands there for MacLain.
Zen misses with a takedown attempt - MacLain sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
MacLain throws a right and a left that both miss.
Kita Zen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
MacLain stuffs the takedown.

Zen drives through with a takedown into MacLain's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

MacLain has his foot on Zen's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Zen works his way back into a safe position though.

MacLain pushes a forearm under Zen's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Zen is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
