PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Myles Wilko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Sajdak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sajdak is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Thrift Shop. Joe Sajdak will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Myles Wilko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joe Sajdak!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Gwen Towbar and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sajdak doesn't manage to clinch there - Wilko circles away.
A head kick misses from Wilko.

Sajdak tries to sprawl but Wilko drives through with a takedown into half guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Sajdak throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

Wilko tries to stand but can't do so whilst Sajdak controls his leg.
Wilko is controlling the pace.
Wilko working over Sajdak with some ground and pound. Sajdak looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Wilko is pressing down on Sajdak's thigh, looking to free his foot. Sajdak is holding on for now.

Sajdak looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Wilko's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Myles Wilko wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Sajdak.
Wilko takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Wilko shoots in for a double leg but Sajdak sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Sajdak fails with an attempt to clinch.

Sajdak throws a low kick but Wilko avoids it.

Wilko decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Wilko passes to side control.
Wilko is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Wilko has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Wilko lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Wilko wants to stand but Sajdak has his arm trapped.
Wilko lands a decent elbow from side control.
Sajdak is working to avoid the ground and pound but Wilko connects with a decent elbow.
Wilko remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Wilko seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Sajdak for as long as he can get away with.
Sajdak on the wrong end of some ground and pound.

Wilko is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Sajdak has escaped the position, nice work there.
Wilko is staying tight to Sajdak's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Wilko is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Wilko shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Sajdak digs a good body shot into Wilko's ribs.
Wilko has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Sajdak is breathing heavily.

Wilko closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Sajdak quickly recovers to half guard.

Sajdak is trying to maintain the position but Wilko is very close to passing his half guard.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Wilko slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Sajdak looking to control.
Wilko content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Wilko stays in close to Sajdak's body and controls the position.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Wilko tries to free his leg and advance position but Sajdak is retaining full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Myles Wilko just wasn't active enough.
Sajdak blocks a head kick by Wilko.
Wilko tries to close the distance and clinch but Sajdak swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Wilko thows a body shot but no joy.
Myles Wilko is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Wilko engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Myles Wilko dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Wilko pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Wilko is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Sajdak can do to turn this around?
Sajdak swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Sajdak throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Sajdak scores with a jab to the head.

Wilko closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Wilko lands in his opponent's guard.
Wilko is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Sajdak takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Sajdak wants to control but Wilko is having none of it.

Myles Wilko overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Wilko manages to capitalize on a mistake by Sajdak to take his back!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Sajdak defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Wilko's arms.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Sajdak has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.

And that's the end of the fight!
Myles Wilko showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Wilko, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

After the fight, Myles Wilko was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
