PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tobias Battle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Billy Durran (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Durran has chosen Do or die as his entrance music. Billy Durran has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Tobias Battle's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tobias Battle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Billy Durran!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, George Francis and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Battle dives in and scores a takedown into Durran's guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Battle stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Durran doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Battle counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Durran fails in his attempt to clinch.
Durran wants to clinch up but Battle keeps it at a distance.

Battle closes the distance and pushes Durran back into the cage.
Battle wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Durran has him pressed against the cage.

Durran tightens his grip and picks Battle up, before dumping him to the ground. Battle manages to land in guard.
Battle punching from the bottom - just letting Durran know he's still in a fight.
Battle trying to keep a closed guard but Durran is proving a slippery customer.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Battle keeping moving, preventing Durran from controlling successfully.
Durran throws a big right hand that misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Durran got a little sloppy there for a moment and Battle has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Durran has managed to get both his arms back between Battle's legs - danger averted.

Battle escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Durran gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Battle throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Battle is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Battle lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Durran!

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Battle goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Durran is on top in guard.
Durran with a flurry of punches that miss.
Battle has a closed guard, preventing Durran from standing up.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Durran stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Battle swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Battle is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Durran tries to free his leg and advance position but Battle is retaining full guard.
Durran throwing strikes but missing.
Durran advances position into side control!
Durran wants to stand but Battle has his arm trapped.
Battle is trying to work for a sweep but Durran has mounted him!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Durran wants to control the pace but Battle is squirming around nicely.
Battle takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Battle keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Battle is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Battle is breathing heavily.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Battle is squirming around, avoiding Durran's attempts to control the action.
Durran landing strikes, looking to finish!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Billy Durran will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Durran shoots for a takedown but Battle saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Battle fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Battle drives through with a takedown into Durran's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Battle stands up and waves to Durran to follow him.
Billy Durran seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Battle avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Durran fails in his attempt to clinch.

Battle gets tackled into the cage by Durran. Durran maintains the clinch.

Battle decides to pull guard.

Battle working for a triangle but Durran defends it easily.

Durran looking to pass the guard.

Durran thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Durran is breathing heavily.

Battle had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Durran defends it easily.
Durran lands a couple of decent looking shots.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Durran wants to stand but Battle is controlling his posture from full guard.
Durran passes Battle's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Durran wants to stand up but Battle has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Battle throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Durran prevents Battle from standing back up.
Battle wants to get back to full guard.
Durran is looking to take a break and control but Battle is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Durran prevents Battle from improving his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Durran moves into side control, avoiding the strikes from Battle.

Durran looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Battle tries to escape but Durran is in control.
Battle is trying to control Durran's posture but Durran avoids it.
Battle gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Battle is trying to stand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Tobias Battle will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Durran stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Durran wants it to stay on the feet.
Battle circles away from the clinch attempt.
Durran tries to close the distance and clinch up but Battle swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Battle drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Battle taking a breather here.
Durran defending against the ground and pound.

Battle stands up and beckons Durran to his feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Battle shoots in but no luck this time.

Battle looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Durran is trying to maintain the position but Battle is very close to passing his half guard.
Durran wants to get back to his feet.

Battle postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Durran to stand up.

Battle shoots in and bounces Durran off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Battle is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Battle postures up.
Battle has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Durran is proving hard to escape from.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Battle stops Durran from standing up.
Battle works over Durran with some ground and pound from guard.

Battle gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Battle needs to keep his hands up - Durran had a free shot at his head there.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Durran ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Durran motions for Battle to come forward. Durran throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Tobias Battle is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Battle clinches up with Durran and pushes him back against the cage.
Durran tries for a takedown. No joy.
Battle avoiding damage as Durran throws knees to the body.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Battle has Durran pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Battle pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Durran tumbling to the mat - Battle dives into Durran's guard.
Battle throws a strike but Durran rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Battle throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Durran is working Battle over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Battle throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Durran escapes and throws Battle's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Durran has knee on belly and moves into mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Durran manages to capitalize on a mistake by Battle to take his back!

Durran looking for the RNC.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Durran scores with some strikes to the side of the head there. Good, points scoring shots.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
A lull in the action here.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Tobias Battle.
I think Battle has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
