0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Esdag Cepa Urmus! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Church Wells! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Alexandre Firmino and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wells doesn't manage to clinch there - Cepa Urmus circles away.
Wells is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Cepa Urmus misses with a few strikes there.
Cepa Urmus closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Wells is looking for a sweep. Cepa Urmus decides to stand back up. Cepa Urmus steps back and let's Wells get back to his feet. Wells with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Cepa Urmus keeps the fight on the outside. Cepa Urmus lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook. Wells clinches up against the cage. Cepa Urmus on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Wells breaks from the clinch.
Nice sprawl there from Wells as Cepa Urmus shoots in. A good leg kick by Wells. Wells shoots and misses and Cepa Urmus counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Wells! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Wells is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Wells tries to reverse the position but Cepa Urmus maintains control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cepa Urmus with a couple of short strikes. Cepa Urmus wants to control the pace but Wells is squirming around nicely.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cepa Urmus controlling his opponent. Cepa Urmus is breathing heavily. Cepa Urmus pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. Wells tries to hold on but Cepa Urmus pushes him away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Cepa Urmus cracks Wells with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Cepa Urmus prevents Wells from getting the reversal. Cepa Urmus looking to finish Wells with some ground and pound. This is bad for Wells! Cepa Urmus looking to control and managing it successfully. Cepa Urmus lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Cepa Urmus lands a nice shot to the head. Cepa Urmus fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Wells is wriggling around trying to escape.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Wells is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Wells is trying to keep from getting into a worse position than he's already in but Wells is working away and isn't letting himself get tied up. Wells is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Wells manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Cepa Urmus regains full guard. Nicely done.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Wells trying to control but Cepa Urmus is working from the bottom. Cepa Urmus is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. Cepa Urmus wants to break the clinch but can't.

Wells wants to clinch. Cepa Urmus shoots in and bounces Wells off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Cepa Urmus decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Wells, up you get! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Wells with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Cepa Urmus to score with a decent uppercut. Wells lands a nice looking kick to the body. Cepa Urmus takes a step back to recover. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Esdag Cepa Urmus dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Wells works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Cepa Urmus looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Wells tries for a takedown but Cepa Urmus circles away easily and Cepa Urmus counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Cepa Urmus. Cepa Urmus stands up from guard. Let's bang! Cepa Urmus connects with the punch. Cepa Urmus changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Wells looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage! Cepa Urmus just content to control the position. Cepa Urmus decides to stand up, so the ref orders Wells to his feet. Wells misses with a body kick. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Cepa Urmus misses with a head kick.

Wells lands a slapping body shot.
Wells scores a takedown into full mount! Cepa Urmus regains half guard. Wells wants to control but Cepa Urmus is keeping him busy. Cepa Urmus is pressing down on Wells's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Wells slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Wells wanted to stand there but Cepa Urmus had control of the position. Cepa Urmus wants to stand but Wells is controlling the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wells gets to his feet - Cepa Urmus follows without any prompting. Cepa Urmus darts in and clinches Wells up against the cage. Cepa Urmus has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Wells avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Wells prevents Cepa Urmus from breaking the clinch. Cepa Urmus breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Wells misses the shot to the body. Cepa Urmus misses with a jab, cross combination.
Wells is looking to clinch but Cepa Urmus is avoiding it.
The fight stays on the outside here - Wells looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Wells fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Cepa Urmus. Cepa Urmus with a jab. Wells misses with a body kick. Cepa Urmus swinging wilding here.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Cepa Urmus throws a right and a left that Wells avoids nicely. Cepa Urmus throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Wells's waist but Wells gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Cepa Urmus off to one side. Wells lands with a kick to the ribs.
Cepa Urmus tries to keep at a distance but Wells has taken the fight into the clinch. Wells breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Cepa Urmus has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Cepa Urmus decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Wells, up you get!

Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Wells tries to get to full guard but Cepa Urmus has control of the leg. Wells moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Cepa Urmus stands up and waves to Wells to follow him. Cepa Urmus on the wrong end of a kick to the body.

Wells tries to improve position but can't. Cepa Urmus prevents Wells from escaping the position. Wells is looking to regain half guard here but Cepa Urmus keeps moving and retains side control. Wells is not content to let Cepa Urmus control the position. Wells is trying to get back to half guard. Esdag Cepa Urmus overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Cepa Urmus is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Wells is forced to tap! Great finish!
