The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Horrible takedown by St Pierre or perhaps it was just good defense by Aberdeen which made him look bad. St Pierre wants to clinch and Aberdeen counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Aberdeen landing some decent shots from guard. St Pierre keeping full guard, as Aberdeen tries to pass. Aberdeen slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. St Pierre really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Aberdeen. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. St Pierre looking to hit a scissor sweep but Aberdeen is one step ahead there. Aberdeen stays in close to St Pierre 's body and controls the position.
That's one minute gone in the round.
We're going to have a standup here because Brendon Aberdeen wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. St Pierre keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Aberdeen shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. St Pierre keeping full guard, as Aberdeen tries to pass. Aberdeen throws a big elbow that misses. Aberdeen sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed St Pierre 's guard. Aberdeen in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. St Pierre tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Aberdeen!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Brendon Aberdeen! Brendon Aberdeen gave a mention to Polar Bear in his post fight interview. That will please them (and hopefully generate some sales).
