Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Garth Lara! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tauheed Epps! The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Yves DeLean and Alec Ball.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lara misses with a body shot.
Epps throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Lara. Lara fails in his attempt to clinch. Epps moves into the clinch successfully.
Lara could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Lara wants a takedown.
Lara is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Epps is keeping busy. Epps presses Lara against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot. Lara is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace. A short left from Epps. Lara tries for a takedown. No joy.
Lara effectively controlling the action here. Lara pulls guard successfully.
Epps throws a big right hand that misses. Lara keeping moving, preventing Epps from controlling successfully.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lara is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Epps missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Lara has a closed guard, preventing Epps from standing up. Epps stands up and waves to Lara to follow him.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Epps swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Epps fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Lara, pushing him back against the cage. Epps taking a breather. Lara tries to pull guard but Epps forces him back to his feet, against the cage. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Garth Lara. That's going to take a lot out of him. Epps breaks from the clinch.
Lara walks into a jab. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Epps fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Lara checks a low kick from Epps.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Epps throws a head kick that half lands.
Epps lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Lara at a distance.
Lara is looking to land body kicks. Epps clinches with his opponent.
Lara pulls guard successfully.
Lara might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Epps throws a sloppy strike and Lara has hooked up an armbar on the loose arm! He's turned and extended fully! Epps is forced to tap! Great BJJ from Lara!
