Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Gene Saunders! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Benjamin Dodd! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Saunders fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Dodd avoids it really well and circles away. Saunders leaves Dodd with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Dodd fails with a takedown attempt. Dodd fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Gene Saunders has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Benjamin Dodd. Saunders shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Dodd napping and manages to drive through into side control! We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Saunders is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Dodd has escaped the position, nice work there. Dodd is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Saunders is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
That's one minute gone in the round. Saunders is in the full mount, landing strikes. Dodd working to try and regain half guard.
Dodd tries to hold on but Saunders pushes him away. Dodd gets back to half guard. Dodd has hold of Saunders's hands but Saunders slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Saunders stops Dodd from getting back to his feet.
Saunders is nestled in close to Dodd, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Saunders looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Dodd tries to get to full guard but Saunders has control of the leg. Dodd wants to control but Saunders is keeping busy.
Saunders lands with a punch from half guard. Saunders lands with a punch from half guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Dodd is trying to control but can't.
Saunders winds up and cracks Dodd with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Dodd wants to get back to full guard but Saunders has mounted him!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Saunders lands a nice shot to the head. Dodd bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Saunders is looking for a triangle but Dodd pushes his legs off easily.
Dodd trying to control but Saunders is working from the bottom. Saunders wants to sweep but no luck. Dodd wants to control from the top but Saunders keeps moving. Saunders has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Dodd missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Saunders is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Dodd is aware though and is defending well. Dodd stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Saunders swivels though and keeps the full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Dodd missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Dodd stands up from guard. Let's bang! Benjamin Dodd seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Saunders pushes Dodd up against the cage in a clinch. Dodd can't get the takedown.

Gene Saunders dominated that round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
Saunders shoots in and drives through. Dodd sprawls well. Saunders drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Gene Saunders overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Dodd looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Dodd throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land. Saunders distracts Dodd with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Saunders really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Dodd looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Saunders is defending well. Dodd quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Saunders has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Dodd celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
