Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sylvester Gallegos! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rust Cohle! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cohle takes the fight into the clinch. Cohle jumps guard and drags Gallegos to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Cohle looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gallegos is one step ahead there. Cohle working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Gallegos. Gallegos is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Gallegos trying to control the position from guard on top but Cohle is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Cohle preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cohle looking to control.
Gallegos has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Gallegos stopping the sweep attempt from Cohle. Cohle pulls Gallegos in close to prevent any damage. Gallegos is looking to work some ground and pound but Cohle has wrist control. Gallegos throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Cohle works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Gallegos might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Cohle keeping moving, preventing Gallegos from controlling successfully. Cohle has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Gallegos has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cohle has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Gallegos clear over his head and slammed him to the mat! Cohle keeps control of the position as Gallegos tries to break free.
Gallegos really is a fat lump. Cohle is looking for the choke from the back position but Gallegos is controlling his hands well. Cohle avoiding Gallegos 's attempts to control his hands. A lull in the action here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Gallegos tries to roll but Cohle sticks to his back.
Cohle is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Gallegos is defending well though. Cohle let's go of the attempt for now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gallegos is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Cohle tries to keep control of the position but Gallegos is staying busy. Gallegos is trying to break free.
Gallegos is working hard here to advance position. Cohle lands with a nice looking elbow that stuns Gallegos.
Cohle looking to break Gallegos's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Gallegos remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Cohle will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Cohle is not going to allow Gallegos to sit and survive in this position. Gallegos looking very determined here, making life difficult for Cohle.
Gallegos trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Cohle is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Gallegos manages to reverse the position and now he's in Cohle's guard. Nice work there by Gallegos.

Rust Cohle dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Gallegos is looking to clinch. Cohle throws a series of punches but Gallegos avoids them all with ease. Cohle closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Gallegos to the mat! Gallegos manages to get full guard. Cohle content to stall in guard here. Cohle trying to control but Gallegos is working from the bottom. Cohle postures up.
Cohle chips away with some ground and pound. Cohle drops back looking for a leg! Gallegos is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Gallegos manages to kick Cohle off! Cohle jumps back into Gallegos's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cohle trying to control but Gallegos is working from the bottom. Cohle sitting in guard here, content to control. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Cohle trying to control the position from guard on top but Gallegos is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
OK we're going to have a standup here. Rust Cohle hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Cohle misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Gallegos tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Cohle paws at him with a jab and circles away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cohle misses with a two punch combination.
Cohle closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Cohle tries to stand but his arm is trapped. Cohle wants to take a breather but Gallegos is having none of it. Gallegos has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Cohle is working away from the top position though. Gallegos works his way to full guard. Good work. Cohle is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Gallegos is trying to control the position but Cohle postures up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cohle trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Cohle gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Cohle pulls Gallegos into guard.

Cohle wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Gallegos won't allow Cohle to sweep him here.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Rust Cohle wasn't active enough on the ground. Cohle throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Gallegos was covering up waiting for the punch and Cohle finishes the takedown easily into guard. Cohle has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Gallegos is proving hard to escape from. Cohle is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Rust Cohle has got the better of the ground game so far. Cohle pushes down on Gallegos's leg and manages to get into half guard. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Gallegos wants to sweep but Cohle has passed to side control! Gallegos takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Rust Cohle showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!
Gallegos moves in looking to clinch but Cohle pushes him off. Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Cohle. Cohle gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Cohle pulls guard effortlessly. Cohle has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Gallegos can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Gallegos postures up in Cohle's guard and throws a big left but Cohle blocks it. Gallegos lands a couple of elbows. Gallegos thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Cohle preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cohle not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Gallegos in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Cohle is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Gallegos is controlling him. Cohle is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Cohle is looking for a triangle but Gallegos pushes his legs off easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Gallegos missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Gallegos is working Cohle over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Gallegos preventing the sweep. Gallegos throwing strikes but missing. Cohle wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Cohle has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Gallegos has passed into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Cohle tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Gallegos presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount! Cohle wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Gallegos.
Gallegos looking to finish Cohle with some ground and pound. This is bad for Cohle! Cohle is trying to escape the mount.
Gallegos jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Cohle manages to avoid the submission attempt. Gallegos is chipping away with strikes.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cohle struggling a bit here. Gallegos is looking to take a break and control but Cohle is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Cohle wants to get back to his feet.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Sylvester Gallegos. Well Cohle has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality.
