PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Freddy Frost (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pi Bruteforce (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Freddy Frost!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Pi Bruteforce!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Winston Alpacca and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Frost tries to clinch but Bruteforce moves away

and Bruteforce counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Bruteforce throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bruteforce seems to be working for a kimura but Frost defends the submission attempt.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Bruteforce in particular looking to stall.
Bruteforce is trying to control the action in half guard but Frost is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Bruteforce missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Bruteforce keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Bruteforce wants to lay and pray for a moment but Frost keeps working.

Pi Bruteforce has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Frost is trying hard to land a takedown here. Bruteforce sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

The fight stays on the outside here - Frost looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
No joy there for Frost, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Bruteforce defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Frost.
Frost looks to land a combination but Bruteforce avoids it well.
Frost looks for a takedown but Bruteforce sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Freddy Frost. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Frost moves to clinch but Bruteforce breaks away
and Bruteforce counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Frost tries to clinch up.
Frost goes for a double leg but Bruteforce avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Bruteforce continues to drive forward.

Bruteforce breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Frost misses with a takedown

and Bruteforce counters with a nice double leg into side control. Frost won't be happy with that.
Frost is breathing heavily.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Bruteforce connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Frost some visible discomfort.
Bruteforce in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Bruteforce tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Frost pushes Bruteforce away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Bruteforce gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Bruteforce tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Bruteforce has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Bruteforce wants to stand but Frost has him controlled and pulls him back into his guard.

Frost will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Frost throws his legs up looking for a submission but Bruteforce uses it to pass to side control.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Bruteforce working the body and head with strikes.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The ground and pound from Bruteforce seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

and Bruteforce counters with a single leg into guard. Frost didn't expect that.

Bruteforce tries to keep at a distance but Frost has taken the fight into the clinch.

Freddy Frost is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Frost shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Frost stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bruteforce swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Bruteforce wants to get back to his feet but Frost is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Bruteforce throws some shots to the body, keeping his opponent honest.

Bruteforce pulls Frost in close to his closed guard and prevents Frost from doing any damage or advancing position.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Bruteforce looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Frost avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Bruteforce can't keep his opponent in guard - Frost advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Frost decides to stand up.
Frost is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Bruteforce avoids the head kick by Frost.
Frost definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Frost tries to bum rush Bruteforce with a series of wild strikes but Bruteforce uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Pi Bruteforce will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Bruteforce circles away from the clinch attempt.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Frost is defended easily by Bruteforce.
Frost closes the distance and clinches up with Bruteforce, looking for a takedown. Frost pushes Bruteforce against the cage but Bruteforce circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bruteforce escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Frost closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Frost misses with a combination

and Bruteforce counters with a nice double leg into side control. Frost won't be happy with that.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Bruteforce cracks Frost with a big right hand but Frost just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Bruteforce moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Frost gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Bruteforce takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Bruteforce looking to finish Frost with some ground and pound. This is bad for Frost!
Bruteforce lands a nice shot to the head.
Bruteforce lands a big elbow.

Bruteforce tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Bruteforce tries to control but Frost wriggling away.

Bruteforce swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Frost is now in Bruteforce's guard. A big mistake from Bruteforce there, giving up the dominant position!

Freddy Frost has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Bruteforce trying to strike off his back.
Bruteforce looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Pi Bruteforce has got the better of the ground game so far.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Bruteforce wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Frost is now in half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Bruteforce is staying active underneath Frost, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Pi Bruteforce comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
