PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Carneiro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Raphael Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carneiro comes to the cage accompanied by The Rasmus - In the Shadows. Daniel Carneiro had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 206.1lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Daniel Carneiro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Raphael Davis!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Paul Tew and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Davis pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Davis throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Carneiro was covering up waiting for the punch and Davis finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Davis works over Carneiro with some ground and pound from guard.

Davis shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Carneiro's guard.

Carneiro will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Davis tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Carneiro manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Raphael Davis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Carneiro throws a right and a left that Davis avoids nicely.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Carneiro dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Davis. That did some damage!

That was a close round but Daniel Carneiro did the better work so I'd imagine he'll take it.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


No joy there for Carneiro, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Davis shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Carneiro is trying to defend but Davis finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Carneiro has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Davis is working away from the top position though.
Davis is pressing down on Carneiro's thigh, looking to free his foot. Carneiro is holding on for now.
Davis looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Carneiro with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Carneiro connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Davis's hands.
Davis takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Carneiro moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Davis feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Daniel Carneiro.
I think Carneiro has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
