PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Trygve Bondevik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Renat Boldyrev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 11 - 1, fighting out of London, Trygve Bondevik!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Renat Boldyrev!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Anni Minnemäki and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bondevik misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Bondevik tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Boldyrev feints and as Bondevik raises his hands in defense, Boldyrev changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Boldyrev sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Bondevik's guard.
Bondevik is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Bondevik has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Bondevik tries to roll over but Boldyrev keeps him under control.
Bondevik preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Boldyrev looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Boldyrev throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Bondevik tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Boldyrev is in Bondevik's guard.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Renat Boldyrev hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Boldyrev would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Bondevik tries to work over Boldyrev's front leg with a kick but Boldyrev checks it.

Bondevik misses with a low kick.

Boldyrev shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Boldyrev was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Bondevik can't do much from the bottom here.
Boldyrev remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Bondevik wants to control but Boldyrev postures up.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Boldyrev throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bondevik is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

It looks like Boldyrev is going to stand back up.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Bondevik knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Boldyrev on the ground.
Bondevik moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Boldyrev seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Boldyrev shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Bondevik napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Bondevik sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Boldyrev has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Bondevik has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Boldyrev lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Bondevik trying to control the hands but Boldyrev breaks the grip.
Boldyrev just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Boldyrev is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Boldyrev gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Boldyrev gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Boldyrev apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Bondevik does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Trygve Bondevik seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bondevik wants to land a leg kick but Boldyrev is out of range.

Boldyrev is looking to take a break and control but Bondevik is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
