PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Dustin Carmelo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ode Jokinen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carmelo comes to the cage accompanied by These Boots. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Dustin Carmelo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Ode Jokinen!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Daniel Bishop and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jokinen tries to close the distance and clinch up but Carmelo swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Jokinen fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Jokinen connects with a body shot that sends Carmelo's belly button to the back.
Jokinen lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Jokinen with a nice cross.
A jab from Jokinen finds it's way through Carmelo's defenses.
Carmelo tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jokinen sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Carmelo somewhat.
Carmelo takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Jokinen moves out of range as Carmelo throws a body kick.
Carmelo shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Jokinen defends it nicely.
Jokinen scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Jokinen feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Jokinen wants to pass the guard but Carmelo is keeping the position.
Carmelo wants to get back to his feet but Jokinen is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Jokinen looking to sit in guard and control but Carmelo gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Jokinen bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Carmelo's guard.
Jokinen stands up over Carmelo, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
My spies in Athletic Advantage inform me that Jokinen has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Carmelo is really struggling to control Jokinen but he's trying to hold on to the position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Jokinen shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Carmelo's guard.

Carmelo has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Jokinen can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Carmelo closes this distance looking for a takedown but Jokinen circles away.

Jokinen throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Carmelo on the side of the head.

Carmelo needs to keep his hands up - Jokinen had a free shot at his head there.

Horrible takedown by Jokinen or perhaps it was just good defense by Carmelo which made him look bad.
Jokinen is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Carmelo.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jokinen is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

That's time! Carmelo's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!
