The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stanley throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Stanley takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Stanley fails with a takedown attempt.
A good leg kick by Gomez.
Stanley drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Stanley loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stanley throws a strike but Gomez rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Stanley is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

My spies in LOD Gym Now with StandUP inform me that Gomez has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Gomez has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Stanley is proving hard to escape from.
Stanley is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Shinya Stanley has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Stanley tries to clinch but Gomez is having none of it.

Stanley misses with a head kick.
Gomez throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Stanley.
Gomez cracks Stanley with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Rafael Gomez is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Stanley walks into a stiff left hand from Gomez.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gomez lands with a slapping head kick.
Gomez throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Stanley misses with a head kick.
Donk. Gomez catches Stanley right on the button with a cross.
Stanley is rocked!
Gomez instigates a clinch.
Oh Stanley is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Stanley wants to break the clinch but can't.
Gomez throws a big uppercut that drops Stanley! More strikes from Gomez and the referee jumps in to stop the fight! Stanley lies dazed against the cage as Gomez celebrates with his cornermen!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:43 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Rafael Gomez!
Rafael Gomez looked relieved post fight as he said the following; 'WALTER BISHOP YOU ARE NEXT'.
Shinya Stanley spoke after the fight, saying 'That technique was cowardly and I think my opponent should be embarrassed for winning in that way. I knock people unconscious like a real fighter!'.
