Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Sid Going (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Iain James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Going comes into the arena with Boom Schalak - House of Pain blaring out of the sound system. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Sid Going!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Iain James!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Anni Minnemäki and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James stalks Going and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Going's face. Going staggers backwards, shaken.

Going closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Going wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

James breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
James buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Going throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
James on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.

Going scores with a takedown into James's guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

James throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Going got a little sloppy there for a moment and James has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Going has managed to get both his arms back between James's legs - danger averted.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Going gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

That's one minute gone in the round.
James cracks the inside of Going's front leg.
James fails with an attempt to clinch.
Going rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but James moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Going has been working on his boxing with his coaches at MMA Sanok Training Center in the buildup to the fight.
James moves in looking to clinch but Going pushes him off.

Going gets a double leg takedown into James's guard.
Going controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

James is working an open guard so Going takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Going swats away the attempt to clinch by James.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
A left and a right from Going both land. Nice combination.
Going swinging wildly here.

Going shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
James told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

James keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Going is controlling the pace.

James is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Going pulls his head out easily.

James is looking to escape.
James trying to get back to full guard but Going takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
James really wants to buck Going off and get back to his feet.
James slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Going stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
James with a hook.
James tries to clinch there but Going circles away.

Going has closed the distance and engaged James in a clinch.
James can't find room to land a body shot as Going controls the action.
Going wants to break the clinch but can't.
Going has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
James struggles to land a body shot inside as Going controls his hands.
James keeps control of Going as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
James misses with the head strike.
Going wants to break the clinch but can't.
Going tries to break the clinch but James is controlling the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sid Going dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Going circles away from the clinch attempt.

Going closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

James actively working from the bottom here.
Going frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Going tries to control but James wriggling away.

Going get's back to his feet.

Going tries to keep at a distance but James has taken the fight into the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Going leaning his opponent against the cage.
James misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Going.
James is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Going is defending well.
Going blocks a body shot from James.
James lands a nice elbow.
Going tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. James smiles and moves away.
James closes the distance but Going moves to the side
and Going counters with a two punch combo.
James looks to land a combination but Going avoids it well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Going circles away from the clinch attempt.
James fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Going has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
No joy there for Going, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
James is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
James tries to clinch but Going is having none of it.
James pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

James gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Sid Going overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Going decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Going with a jab.
Going misses with a double jab.
Going lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but James circles away quickly and effectively.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
James scores with a jab to the jaw.
Going misses with a two punch combination.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
James is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Going has taken the fight to the clinch.
Going tries to pull guard but James holds him up against the cage and eventually Going drops back down to his feet.
James landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
James tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Going smiles and moves away.
Going misses with a wild combination.
Going throws a series of punches but James avoids them all with ease.
James tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by James.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Going.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

James sneaks out the side door and pushes Going away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
James is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Going shoots in and bounces James off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

James had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Going defends it easily.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

James looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Going passes into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sid Going dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Going closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Going lands in his opponent's guard.

James is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Going has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Going gets to his feet. James looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Going lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but James circles away quickly and effectively.
Sid Going is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Going swats away the attempt to clinch by James.

James tries to clinch up.

Going throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. James was covering up waiting for the punch and Going finishes the takedown easily into guard.

James has an active guard here but Going has managed to pass into half guard.
James is trying to control but Going passes into side control!
James is looking for a sweep.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
You can see the frustration on James's face as Going controls the position.
James is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Going is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Going stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Going shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. James eats them both and turns towards Going to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
James tries a head kick but it misses.

Going bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
James wants to control but Going postures up.
James is trying to get back to half guard.

Going stands up and beckons James to his feet.
Iain James has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

James instigates a clinch.
James unloads a knee to the mid-section. Going lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
James lands a good knee to the midsection. Going won't want to take too many of those.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
James misses with a body punch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
James misses with a hook to the ribs.
Nice elbow from James.
Going wants to get back to striking at distance but James won't allow it.
James lands a nice knee to the body.
James lands an elbow just above Going 's eye.
Going fails to pull the fight into his guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Sid Going is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Sid Going showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Going, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
