Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Justin Reilly! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Roman Kuznetsov! The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight. Reilly connects with a jab. Reilly could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Reilly has managed to clinch.
Reilly is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage. Kuznetsov gets a nice trip takedown into half guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Reilly actively working from the bottom here. Reilly is not content to let Kuznetsov control the position. Reilly flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Reilly looking for submissions off his back. Reilly keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount. Reilly slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kuznetsov wants to control from the top but Reilly keeps moving. Kuznetsov really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Reilly. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Roman Kuznetsov. Reilly has managed to clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kuznetsov jumps guard.
Kuznetsov is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Reilly is controlling him. Reilly postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Reilly in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Kuznetsov avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Reilly throws a big elbow that misses. Reilly working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Kuznetsov working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Reilly.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Reilly connects with a couple of short punches. Reilly throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Kuznetsov works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Reilly throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Reilly won't allow Kuznetsov to get back to his feet. Reilly has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Reilly lands a couple of decent looking shots. Reilly scoring with punches to the head and body. Reilly throws a strike but Kuznetsov rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Kuznetsov looking to sit in guard and control but Reilly gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Justin Reilly dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Kuznetsov shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Reilly had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kuznetsov defends it easily. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kuznetsov being controlled here momentarily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Reilly working a defensive guard here.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Reilly lands a high kick!
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Reilly forces Kuznetsov back against the cage and clinches. Kuznetsov turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Kuznetsov wants to control but Reilly is keeping him busy. Kuznetsov wants to stand but Reilly has him controlled and pulls him back into his guard. Reilly working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kuznetsov doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kuznetsov manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Reilly has his feet on Kuznetsov's thighs here. He's pushed Kuznetsov off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Kuznetsov screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
