Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Andy Carroll! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lenny Lopez! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Alan Glass and Chris Downing.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Carroll throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Excellent takedown into side control there by Lopez. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Lopez stands up and beckons Carroll to his feet. Lopez takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Carroll scores with a nice head shot. Carroll tries to bum rush Lopez with a series of wild strikes but Lopez uses good footwork to avoid the assault. We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Lopez has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. Lopez showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Carroll.
Carroll throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Lopez on the side of the head. Lopez clinches up against the cage. Lopez working some nice short punches in the clinch. Lopez escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Lopez connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Carroll ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Lopez misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Carroll seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lopez closes the distance and clinches. Lopez lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Carroll or not. Lopez has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Carroll after a bit of a struggle. Carroll is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Carroll looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Lopez's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Carroll lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Lopez circles away quickly and effectively. Lopez avoids the body shot from Carroll.
Carroll lands with a hook. Lopez tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. Carroll is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range. Lopez stuns Carroll with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Carroll lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Lopez circles away quickly and effectively. Lopez walks into a straight right hand from Carroll.
Lopez is rocked! Carroll lands with a jab that stuns his opponent. Lopez is looking to close the distance but Carroll sees it coming and throws a beautiful knee! Lopez crumbles to the mat and that's all she wrote! Let's hope Lopez is OK because that was naaaaaasty!
