Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Paulo Mendosa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nikolai Nation (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mendosa comes to the cage accompanied by Dead and Gone -The Black Keys. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Paulo Mendosa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Nikolai Nation!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Matheus Silva and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendosa shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Nation as he avoids it easily.
Mendosa tries to clinch up but Nation circles away and keeps his distance.
Nation changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

and Nation counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mendosa has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Nation can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Nation would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Mendosa keeping full guard, as Nation tries to pass.
My spies in The Sweat Lodge inform me that Nation has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
Nation wanted to stand there but Mendosa had control of the position.
Mendosa has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Nation has passed into side control.
Mendosa is looking to reverse the position.

Mendosa is not content to let Nation control the position.
Nation wants to stand but Mendosa is controlling his arm.
Mendosa tries to buck Nation off but Nation is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mendosa takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Nation tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Mendosa sneaks back into half guard.
Mendosa is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Nation keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Nation wants to free his trapped foot but Mendosa is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Mendosa regains full guard. Nicely done.
Nation landing some decent shots from guard.
Nation won't allow Mendosa to sweep him here.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Mendosa has his foot on Nation's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Nation works his way back into a safe position though.
Nation slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Nation wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mendosa keeps working.

Mendosa takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Mendosa is looking for a sweep.
Mendosa prevents Nation from improving position.
Nation in side control lands a decent elbow.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mendosa sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Mendosa manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Mendosa working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Nation doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Nation manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Mendosa is breathing heavily.
Nation trying to control the position from guard on top but Mendosa is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Nation passes Mendosa's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Nation tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Mendosa.

Mendosa is looking for a sweep. Nation is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Nation wants to stand up but Mendosa has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Nation is pressing down on Mendosa's thigh, looking to free his foot. Mendosa is holding on for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Mendosa tries to roll over but Nation keeps him under control.
Nation tries to pass to full mount but Mendosa defends it.
Mendosa works his way to full guard. Good work.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Mendosa is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Nation decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Mendosa, up you get!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nikolai Nation dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Nation lands a two punch combo.
Nation takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Paulo Mendosa seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mendosa takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Mendosa fails with the takedown.
Nation lands with a shot to the body.
Donk. Nation catches Mendosa right on the button with a cross.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Nation stuffs the takedown.
Nation displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Mendosa.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paulo Mendosa. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Nation throws a good cross that connects.
Nation scores with a jab.
Nation walks forward and throws a big overhand right! Mendosa drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes! Nation swarms on him with more punches until the referee wrestles him away from Mendosa's unconscious body! Wow, that was brutal!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:43 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Nikolai Nation!
