And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Edson Gomes and Seu Braga.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alvarez closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Machida to the mat! Machida manages to get full guard.
Machida looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Machida had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Alvarez defends it easily.
Alvarez wanted to stand there but Machida had control of the position.

Alvarez won't allow Machida to sweep him here.
Alvarez has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Machida is on top in guard.
Alvarez manages to escape and get back to his feet.
We've been hearing reports that Alvarez has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

and Alvarez counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
It looks like Jhon Machida has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Machida fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Alvarez avoids it really well and circles away.
Machida doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Alvarez holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Pedro Alvarez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jhon Machida.

Alvarez tightens his grip and picks Machida up, before dumping him to the ground. Machida manages to land in guard.

Machida wants to sweep here but Alvarez controlling him for the moment.
Machida is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Alvarez frees his head nicely. Oh but Machida has switched to an armbar! Alvarez is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
