Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Luciano King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zdzislaw Pokrzywa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pokrzywa has chosen Soad - psycho as his entrance music. Zdzislaw Pokrzywa has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Luciano King's chin.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Zdzislaw Pokrzywa!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Leandro Rodrigues and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

King fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Pokrzywa to the ground. King is now in Pokrzywa's guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Pokrzywa pulls King in to control the position.
Pokrzywa throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Pokrzywa has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
King wants to control from the top but Pokrzywa keeps moving.
Pokrzywa wants to sweep but no luck.
Pokrzywa controls King momentarily but King frees himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

King drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and King jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

King is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Pokrzywa escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. King gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Pokrzywa can do anything to dispel that myth.
Pokrzywa wants to sweep here but King controlling him for the moment.
King wants to get up but he can't break Pokrzywa's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Luciano King wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Horrible takedown by Pokrzywa or perhaps it was just good defense by King which made him look bad.
Pokrzywa's coach down at Rob's Training Center was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Pokrzywa's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

King closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Pokrzywa's guard.
King wants to control from the top but Pokrzywa keeps moving.

King drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Pokrzywa manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now King has Pokrzywa in his guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

King is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Pokrzywa tries to free his leg and advance position but King is retaining full guard.

King will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

That was a close round but I would say that Luciano King will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



King shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
King is looking to take a break and control but Pokrzywa is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
King is thwarting Pokrzywa's attempts to control the position.
Luciano King overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Pokrzywa tries to kick King off but King keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

King is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

King is working for an americana but Pokrzywa has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst King was thinking about the submission.

King wants to stand but Pokrzywa has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Pokrzywa is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Pokrzywa is pressing down on King's thigh, looking to free his foot. King is holding on for now.
Pokrzywa seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Pokrzywa tries to pass to full mount but King defends it.
Pokrzywa looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Let's hope that Pokrzywa has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Pokrzywa winds up and cracks King with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Pokrzywa lands a nice short elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Zdzislaw Pokrzywa showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

King drops back, looking for a kneebar! Pokrzywa looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Pokrzywa looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Pokrzywa!

King is pushing Pokrzywa's head away, looking to escape. Pokrzywa manages to hold on to the position though.

Pokrzywa cracks King with an elbow. That is naaassty.
King is working to avoid the ground and pound but Pokrzywa connects with a decent elbow.
Pokrzywa content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

A big shot lands for Pokrzywa! That's hurt King! Will he recover? Pokrzywa fires away with more strikes and the referee has to step in to stop the fight!
