Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Winfred Burris!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Azamat Bagov!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, John Roberts and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Burris tries to close the distance and clinch but Bagov swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Burris throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Bagov was covering up waiting for the punch and Burris finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Burris wants to stand but Bagov is controlling his posture from full guard.
Bagov wants to stand and escape but Burris is having none of it.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Bagov is on top in guard.
Burris tries to strike from the bottom.

Bagov working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

Bagov trying to control but Burris is working from the bottom.

Bagov gets to his feet - Burris follows without any prompting.

Burris fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Bagov to the ground. Burris is now in Bagov's guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Bagov can do anything to dispel that myth.
Bagov is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Burris has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Bagov working for a triangle but Burris defends it easily.

Bagov escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Burris gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Burris gets to his feet - Bagov follows without any prompting.

Burris shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Burris was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Burris wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Bagov, who protects the arm well.
Burris tries to stand but Bagov is controlling his head.

Burris thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Burris tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bagov tries to improve position but can't.
Burris trying to control the position but Bagov is working away.
Burris wants to stand but Bagov has his arm trapped.
Bagov manages to get back to half guard.
Bagov is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Burris's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Burris's back!

Bagov is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Burris has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Bagov has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Burris taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Bagov doesn't care though - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Azamat Bagov!
In his post fight interview, Azamat Bagov started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
