PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between James Findlay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Stubb (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stubb is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Paper Scratcher. Michael Stubb is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Findlay!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 29 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Michael Stubb!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Robert Twigg and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stubb tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Findlay swivels and escapes.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Findlay gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Stubb.
Findlay creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Findlay prevents a takedown attempt there.
James Findlay has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Michael Stubb.

Findlay manages to break the clinch.

Stubb gets tackled into the cage by Findlay. Findlay maintains the clinch.
Findlay using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.
Findlay swings wildly with an uppercut but Stubb uses good head movement to avoid it.
Stubb drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Findlay gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Findlay tries to pull guard but Stubb won't allow it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Findlay keeping full guard, as Stubb tries to pass.
Findlay can't keep his opponent in guard - Stubb advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Findlay is looking for a sweep. Stubb is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Stubb is working for a kimura but Findlay is defending it quite comfortably.
Stubb trying to control the action but Findlay is working from the bottom.
Stubb might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Findlay haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Findlay knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Stubb on the ground.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Stubb wants to pass to mount but Findlay is defending the position.

Stubb is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Findlay defends it well.
Stubb not doing much here.

Stubb is looking for a kimura but Findlay is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Stubb to get the leverage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Stubb is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Findlay sees it coming and defends easily.

Stubb is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Findlay wants to get back to his feet.
Findlay trying to get back to full guard but Stubb takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Stubb wants to take Findlay's back here but Findlay is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
Findlay is in all sorts of trouble here.

Stubb content just to control the position here.

Stubb has control of Findlay's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Findlay regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Findlay gets back to half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Findlay is defending against the submission attempts here by Stubb.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Michael Stubb dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Stubb looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Findlay is fending him off so far but Stubb persists. Nope, Findlay circles away and we're back to standing.
Findlay fails with an attempt to clinch.

Stubb closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Findlay's guard.
Stubb passes into half guard.
Stubb wants to lay and pray for a moment but Findlay keeps working.
Findlay is looking for a sweep. Stubb is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Findlay is looking to get back to is feet but Stubb passes into side control.
Findlay prevents Stubb from moving into mount.
Findlay pushes Stubb away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Stubb gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Stubb has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Findlay is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Stubb yanks on the arm and Findlay is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Stubb.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:20 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Michael Stubb!
