The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith thows a body shot but no joy.
Smith rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Diaz moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Smith looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Diaz closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Smith to the mat! Smith manages to get full guard.
Smith can't keep his opponent in guard - Diaz advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Diaz is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Smith defends it well.

Smith sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Diaz's guard.
Diaz is looking for a sweep. Smith is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smith moves nicely into side control.
Diaz tries to improve position but can't.
Smith lands an elbow.
Smith has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Diaz is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Smith yanks on the arm and Diaz is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Smith.
