Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Uwe Kaputtski! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Boromir Gondor! The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Matheus Silva and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kaputtski throws a right and a left that both miss. Kaputtski lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Gondor avoids the body shot from Kaputtski.
Kaputtski misses with a double jab.
Gondor closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. Uwe Kaputtski seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Kaputtski stuns Gondor with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Kaputtski swinging wilding here.
Kaputtski loads up on a big right hand but Gondor slips the punch. Kaputtski lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Gondor backs up against the cage.
Gondor avoids a punch combination nicely.
Kaputtski misses with a straight left. Gondor gets the takedown into side control. Kaputtski is breathing heavily. Gondor thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Gondor looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gondor lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Kaputtski down.
Gondor misses with the ground and pound. Gondor tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. Gondor creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots. Gondor misses with the ground and pound.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gondor is looking to take a break and control but Kaputtski is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Gondor sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Kaputtski is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Gondor decides to stand back up. Gondor bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Gondor creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Kaputtski sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Gondor looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Gondor trying to control the position but Kaputtski is working away.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gondor is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Kaputtski will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. Gondor misses with an attempted head punch from side control. Gondor is looking to take a break and control but Kaputtski is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Gondor decides to stand back up. Gondor steps back and let's Kaputtski get back to his feet. Gondor has a takedown stuffed. Gondor shoots in and drives through. Kaputtski sprawls well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Gondor drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Gondor trying to control the position from guard on top but Kaputtski is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Gondor trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Gondor has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Gondor stands and throws Kaputtski's legs to the side, diving into side control. Gondor looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Gondor working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Boromir Gondor dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Kaputtski throws a series of punches but Gondor moves out of range. Gondor changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kaputtski tries to avoid it but Gondor manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kaputtski to the ground. Kaputtski escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Gondor pushes Kaputtski up against the cage in a clinch. Kaputtski wants to break free but Gondor has control.
Gondor has hold of one of Kaputtski's legs. Kaputtski is fighting the takedown attempt but Gondor gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard. Gondor in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Gondor wants to control from the top but Kaputtski keeps moving. Gondor throws a big right hand that misses. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gondor wants to control from the top but Kaputtski keeps moving. Gondor scoring with punches to the head and body. Gondor pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kaputtski is keeping the position for now. Gondor advances position into side control! Gondor wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kaputtski keeps working. Gondor scoring with punches from side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gondor working the ground and pound. Gondor stands up and beckons Kaputtski to his feet. Gondor clinches up with Kaputtski and pushes him back against the cage. Gondor is trying to drag Kaputtski to the mat but Kaputtski just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Gondor tries for a takedown. No joy.
Uwe Kaputtski has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Boromir Gondor. Gondor wants a takedown.
Gondor gets a nice trip takedown into half guard. Gondor trying to mount his opponent but Kaputtski defends it. Boromir Gondor has got the better of the ground game so far. Kaputtski is not content to let Gondor control the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gondor trying to pass the guard but Kaputtski defending well. Gondor throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Gondor throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Gondor is tying to control. Kaputtski wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Nice strikes from Gondor there. Gondor working the head and body with strikes.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Gondor seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Kaputtski is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
