PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Derrick Hooper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Big Kurt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Derrick Hooper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Big Kurt!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Albert Achterberg and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hooper throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Kurt tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Hooper is in Kurt's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Kurt is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Hooper is controlling him.
Kurt can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Hooper controls the pace.
Hooper postures up in Kurt's guard and throws a big left but Kurt blocks it.
Hooper could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Kurt wants to stand but Hooper is controlling the position.
Hooper has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Hooper is standing up over Kurt. Kurt looks to escape but Hooper dives into side control.
Hooper wants to stand but Kurt has his arm trapped.
Hooper wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kurt keeps working.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hooper creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Kurt sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kurt is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Hooper has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Hooper controlling the position from side mount.
Kurt is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Hooper is controlling him well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kurt is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Hooper lands some shots froms side control.
Kurt taking punishment in the form of punches.
Kurt is not content to let Hooper control the position.

Hooper wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kurt, who protects the arm well.

Hooper is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Kurt knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hooper moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Kurt is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Hooper scores with punches from side control.
Hooper prevents Kurt from escaping the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hooper wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kurt keeps working.
Kurt is trying to escape the position but Hooper is controlling the position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Derrick Hooper.
Kurt misses with a takedown attempt - Hooper sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Derrick Hooper dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Hooper steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Kurt.
Kurt will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Kurt tries to clinch there but Hooper circles away.
Kurt lands with a cross.


It looks like Derrick Hooper has been cut.
Kurt throws a right and a left that Hooper avoids nicely.
Hooper uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Kurt.
Hooper is looking to clinch.
Kurt avoids the body shot from Hooper.
Kurt looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Kurt scores with a jab to the head.

That's one minute gone in the round.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Hooper's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Kurt escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Kurt misses with a series of wild punches.
Kurt throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on Hooper's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Kurt dives in looking to finish as Hooper flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Kurt's strikes! Kurt is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Hooper's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Hooper was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:43 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Big Kurt!
