Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
18 - 12 - 0, fighting out of London, Sergei Patrushev! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Daniel Sobota! The judges for this bout are William Gold, Daniel Bishop and James Atkins.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Patrushev tries for a takedown but Sobota sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Sobota stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Sobota wants it to stay on the feet. Sobota is looking to slow Patrushev down with leg kicks. Patrushev lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Nice defenses there by Sobota. Sobota moves into the clinch successfully.
Sobota breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Sobota dives in for a single leg takedown but Patrushev sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Sobota goes for a takedown attempt but Patrushev pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Nice uppercut lands for Sobota. That snapped Patrushev's head back.
Nice defenses there by Patrushev. Patrushev gets the takedown into side control. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Patrushev is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Sobota knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
That's one minute gone in the round. Patrushev working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Patrushev passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Sobota! Patrushev has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Patrushev jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Sobota manages to avoid the submission attempt. Patrushev has an Americana. Sobota didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Patrushev is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Patrushev hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Sergei Patrushev! During a confident post fight interview, Sergei Patrushev thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
