Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between JayDee Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anderson Silva Jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Anderson Silva Jr was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, JayDee Penn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Anderson Silva Jr!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Paul Gruel and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Silva Jr gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Silva Jr effectively controlling the action here.
Penn tries to pull guard but Silva Jr won't allow it.
Silva Jr lands a left hand.
Silva Jr manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Silva Jr lands a right hand.


It looks like JayDee Penn has been cut.
Silva Jr lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Silva Jr content to slow the pace in the clinch.

Silva Jr is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Penn drops down looking for an ankle pick but Silva Jr pulls his leg out and moves away.
Penn shoots in and drives through. Silva Jr sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for JayDee Penn. That's going to take a lot out of him.

No luck for Penn with that takedown attempt.

Penn shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Silva Jr manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Silva Jr is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Penn tries to free his leg and advance position but Silva Jr is retaining full guard.

Penn is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Penn passes into half guard.

Penn wants to work for an arm triangle but Silva Jr is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Silva Jr is controlling Penn's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Penn moves nicely into side control.
Silva Jr is trying to control Penn's posture but Penn avoids it.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Silva Jr can do anything to dispel that myth.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Penn advances to full mount.
Silva Jr avoids a series of strikes thrown by Penn.
Silva Jr working to try and regain half guard.
Silva Jr is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Silva Jr stops Penn from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.

Penn is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Silva Jr has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Silva Jr wants to hold on but Penn pushes him away.

Penn is working for a guillotine from mount but Silva Jr frees his head quite easily.

Penn goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Silva Jr turns into him and now he's in Penn's guard.
Silva Jr's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Silva Jr wants to control from the top but Penn keeps moving.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Penn has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Silva Jr can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Penn is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Silva Jr is aware though and is defending well.
Silva Jr looking to pass the guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Silva Jr is still trying to improve position.

Silva Jr is posturing up here but Penn has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Silva Jr tries to roll out but it's too tight and Silva Jr has to tap! Slick submission there by Penn!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). JayDee Penn!
After the fight, JayDee Penn was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
