Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Benny Reyes! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Karl Dusch! The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Franklyn Lucas and Jonathan Paton.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dusch shoots in and bounces Reyes off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Reyes throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Dusch landing with the ground and pound.
It looks like Benny Reyes has been cut. Dusch wants to control from the top but Reyes keeps moving. Reyes trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from! Reyes working a defensive guard here.
Dusch trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Reyes looking to hit a scissor sweep but Dusch is one step ahead there. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Reyes is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Dusch connects with a couple of short punches.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dusch looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Dusch trying to stand up but can't free himself from Reyes's guard. Reyes wants to sweep but no luck. Dusch scoring with some ground and pound.
Benny Reyes's cut is getting worse. Reyes looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Dusch puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Reyes has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Reyes trying to control but Dusch postures up.
Reyes moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Dusch engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Dusch stands up from guard. Let's bang!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Dusch closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Dusch decides to stand back up. Dusch steps back and let's Reyes get back to his feet. Reyes fails with an attempt to clinch.
Karl Dusch seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Dusch shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Reyes but Reyes pushes him off and we're back to square one. Dusch lands with a big left! Reyes is wobbled badly! Dusch comes in with a flurry of punches and drops Reyes to the floor. The ref jumps in to save him from unneccessary punishment.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Karl Dusch!
