PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jose Martinez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ricky Richardo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ricky Richardo!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, George Francis and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Richardo doesn't manage to clinch there - Martinez circles away.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Martinez accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Richardo has Martinez pulled in close to control his posture.

Martinez postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Richardo to stand up.
Martinez throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Richardo.
Martinez shoots in and drives through. Richardo sprawls well.
Martinez avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Richardo closes the distance and clinches up with Martinez, looking for a takedown. Richardo pushes Martinez against the cage but Martinez circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Richardo's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Martinez tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Richardo just stands there and leans against the cage.
Richardo is pressed up against the cage. Martinez has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Richardo down to the mat. Richardo avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Richardo gets caught flat footed, as Martinez shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Martinez stands and steps away. Richardo gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Richardo slips a jab and a cross from Martinez.
Martinez fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Richardo.

Martinez wants to get back to striking at distance but Richardo won't allow it.

Martinez tries to free his leg and advance position but Richardo is retaining full guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Richardo is staying active underneath Martinez, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Martinez tries to lock up and control but Richardo gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Richardo gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
Martinez throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Richardo throws a head kick but Martinez moves out of range.
Martinez pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Richardo changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Martinez tries to avoid it but Richardo manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Martinez to the ground. Martinez escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Richardo gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Martinez.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jose Martinez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Richardo keeps control of Martinez as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Richardo misses with a knee to the head.
Jose Martinez has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
