PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between John Kinder (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Robinson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kinder comes to the cage accompanied by Let's Get Ready To Rhumble. Robinson has chosen Bang as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, John Kinder!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Michael Robinson!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Peter Branson and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kinder has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Robinson.
Robinson misses with a low kick as Kinder jumps back.
Kinder fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Robinson manages to avoid it.
Robinson goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Kinder scores with a takedown into Robinson's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kinder slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Robinson wants to sweep but no luck.
Kinder prevents Robinson from getting back to his feet.
Robinson trying to strike off his back.
Kinder not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Robinson shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Kinder counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Kinder.
Kinder looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Kinder has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Kinder postures up.
Our spies down at at Cozad The Island inform us that Robinson has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

Robinson shoots in and drives through. Kinder sprawls well.
Kinder tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Robinson manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Robinson connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
A head kick misses from Robinson.
Robinson just misses with a punch to the body.

Kinder fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Robinson sprawls well initially but Kinder persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Robinson looks like he's trying to stand up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kinder is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Kinder is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Kinder performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Nice strikes from Kinder there.
Robinson wants to get back to his feet.
Kinder scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Robinson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kinder. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Kinder thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Robinson's head.
Kinder is taking a breather. Robinson says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Robinson tries for a takedown but Kinder circles away easily

and Kinder decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Robinson's guard.
Kinder engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Kinder tries to stand but Robinson is controlling from the bottom.
Kinder is in close to Robinson's body, working some short punches and elbows.

The ref stands the fighters back up. John Kinder wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Robinson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Kinder closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Kinder lands in his opponent's guard.
Kinder content to stall in guard here.
Robinson is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Kinder is controlling him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kinder is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Kinder lands a couple of digs.
Kinder is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Robinson wants to stand up but Kinder is controlling him.

The ref stands the fighters back up. John Kinder wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Robinson shoots in for a takedown but Kinder shows good takedown defense.
Robinson swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Kinder fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Robinson sprawls well initially but Kinder persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Robinson gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

John Kinder overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. John Kinder wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Kinder darts in and clinches Robinson up against the cage.

Robinson is trying to maintain a safe position but Kinder gets an underhook and turns Robinson into the cage.

Kinder has picked Robinson up - he's going for a ride! Kinder dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Kinder prevents Robinson from improving his position.
Kinder content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Kinder works his foot free and advances to mount.
Kinder controlling from mount.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Kinder gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
Robinson lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.

Kinder throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Robinson was covering up waiting for the punch and Kinder finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Robinson is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Kinder controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Robinson is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Robinson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Kinder postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Kinder not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Kinder, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A very excited looking John Kinder made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
Michael Robinson spoke after the fight, saying 'It wasn't my night tonight. my opponent showed up tonight and I didn't. There's nobody to blame but myself'.
