PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Vacilo Ai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joshua Drum (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Drum has chosen Emiliana Torrini - Jungle Drum as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Vacilo Ai!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Joshua Drum!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Santiago Holmes and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
A telegraphed right hand from Drum misses the target.
Ai tries to move into range but Drum moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Ai tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Drum counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Drum connects with a nice looking jab.
Ai moves to clinch but Drum breaks away
and Drum counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Ai moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Drum fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ai tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Drum counters with a stiff right hand.


It looks like Vacilo Ai has been cut.
We've been told by Ai's head coaches at Island Top Team that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

and Drum counters with a left and a right that stings Ai.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ai tries to clinch up
and Drum counters with a straight right hand.
Drum throws a shot from downtown. Ai moves away and avoids it.
Drum looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Drum throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Joshua Drum is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Drum misses with a looping right.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Drum connects with a single shot there.

Ai pushes Drum up against the cage in a clinch.
Ai tries to pull guard but Drum won't allow it.
Drum lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Ai backwards.
Ai is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Drum to keep the fight standing.
Drum working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
Drum just leaning against Ai, taking a breather.
Ai jumps guard but Drum turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Vacilo Ai. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Ai is trying to pull guard but Drum has him pressed against the cage.
A nice right hand lands inside from Drum.

Drum breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Drum throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Ai closes the distance looking to clinch
and Drum counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Ai tries to clinch but Drum moves away
and Drum counters with a straight right hand.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Drum pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joshua Drum dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Vacilo Ai's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Drum jabbing away but nothing is landing.
A decent looking cross lands there for Drum.
Ai takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.


Ai is rocked!
Ai tries to clinch but Drum moves away
and Drum counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Ai closes the distance but Drum moves to the side
and Drum counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Oh Ai is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Vacilo Ai is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Ai has taken the fight to the clinch.
Ai seems to have got his legs back now.

Ai pulls Drum into guard.
Ai manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Drum can do anything to dispel that myth.

Ai is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Drum to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Drum shrugs it off.

Drum defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Ai.
Drum really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ai. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Ai looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Drum has given up his back here. Will Ai look for the submission or keep pounding away?

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Ai patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?

Ai looking for the RNC.
Drum just trying to survive but Ai is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Drum fending off the submission attempt from Ai.
Drum is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Ai off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.
Ai punches the canvas rather than the man.
Ai avoiding Drum 's attempts to control his hands.

Ai working from the back looking to end the fight with a rear naked choke. Drum is doing well to defend. Ai seems to have got his hand under the chin though and he's sunk the choke in! Drum is forced to tap and this one is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Vacilo Ai!
