PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between James Flint (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Gemson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for James Flint has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, James Flint!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, David Gemson!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Yves DeLean and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gemson moves out of range of the strikes.
Flint throws a lazy uppercut

and Gemson holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Flint working aggressively here.

Gemson manages to break the clinch.
Flint swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Flint misses with a left hand
and Gemson counters with a head kick.

Gemson closes the distance and clinches.

Gemson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Gemson looks to land a right hand but Flint moved out of range.
Gemson shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Flint as he avoids it easily.
Gemson uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Flint.
Flint jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Flint fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Gemson throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Gemson steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Flint.
Flint lands with a straight right. Gemson didn't see that one coming.
Flint connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Gemson shoots in but no luck this time.
A jab from Flint misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gemson misses with a body kick.
A slow jab from Gemson misses its intended target.
Gemson ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Flint takes a swing at Gemson's ribcage but misses.
Gemson gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Flint throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Gemson sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Gemson blocks a jab.
Flint tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Gemson was well out of range. Poor timing from Flint.
Gemson is trying hard to land a takedown here. Flint sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
James Flint has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of David Gemson.
Flint lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Gemson at a distance.
Flint throws an overhand right that lands on Gemson's shoulder, as Gemson tries to avoid the shot.
Gemson takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Flint thows a body shot but no joy.
Flint throws a hook to the side of Gemson's head but Gemson sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Gemson shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Flint as he avoids it easily.
Flint swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Gemson.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Gemson has a takedown stuffed.
Flint throws a hook but Gemson blocks it.
Flint scores with a shot to the body.

Flint gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Gemson looks winded!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Gemson's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Flint is trying to hold Gemson in close to prevent damage but Gemson has managed to pass into half guard.

Gemson wants to work for an arm triangle but Flint is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Gemson passes into side control, despite Flint's attempt to control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gemson has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Gemson throwing strikes here but Flint is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Gemson sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Gemson fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Flint tries to lock up and control but Gemson gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Gemson is landing with some decent strikes but Flint is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Gemson is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Flint lands a nice looking body shot.
Flint throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Gemson sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Flint thows a left - swing and a miss!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Gemson fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Gemson steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Flint.
Flint punishes Gemson's body with a nice straight punch.
Flint throws an ugly left hook that misses

and Gemson counters by clinching up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Gemson dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Flint pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Flint lands with an uppercut that bounces Gemson off the cage and back into range.

Gemson looking to score a takedown here. Flint is defending well but Gemson drives through and ends up in Flint's guard.

Flint is working an open guard so Gemson takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
The crowd cheers as Flint lands an impressive looking overhand right. Gemson doesn't seem phased though.
Gemson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Gemson lands with a nice body kick.
Flint's corner calls for a 1-2. Flint obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Gemson closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

Gemson manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Flint on his heels. He'll look to pass Flint's guard now, I'm sure.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Flint working a defensive guard but Gemson passes into half guard.
Gemson works his foot free and advances to mount.
Flint is trying to reverse the position but instead Gemson has taken his back - oops!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gemson is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

Gemson working from the back looking to end the fight with a rear naked choke. Flint is doing well to defend. Gemson seems to have got his hand under the chin though and he's sunk the choke in! Flint is forced to tap and this one is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:48 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). David Gemson!
