PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Great Cornholio (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Suu Kii (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cornholio comes into the arena with Du Hast by Ramstein - Cornholio Mix blaring out of the sound system. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Great Cornholio!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Suu Kii!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Hugh Johnson and Ben Watson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kii displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Cornholio.
Kii throws a sloppy head kick and Cornholio moves out of range easily.
Cornholio has been working on his balance at Madz , so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Kii.
Cornholio fails with a takedown attempt.

Kii darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Cornholio is trying to control but Kii manages to pass to mount!
Kii looking to control but Cornholio is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Kii lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Kii has hold of Cornholio's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Cornholio manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Cornholio is in all sorts of trouble here.
Kii avoids the attempt from Cornholio to control.

Kii cracks Cornholio with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Kii tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Kii has hold of Cornholio's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Cornholio manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Cornholio is looking to get to half guard.

Kii is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Cornholio can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Cornholio defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Kii's arms.
Kii lands with a nice looking elbow that stuns Cornholio.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Cornholio rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Cornholio wants to sweep but Kii has passed to side control!

Kii lands a decent elbow from side control.
Cornholio gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Kii seems to be working for a kimura but Cornholio defends the submission attempt.
Cornholio trying to control but Kii postures up.
Cornholio wants to improve his position but Kii is controlling well.
Kii missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Kii wants to control but Cornholio is keeping him busy.

Kii is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Cornholio wants to control but Kii is keeping busy.
Cornholio is looking for a sweep. Kii is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Kii is thwarting Cornholio's attempts to control the position.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cornholio tries to get to full guard but Kii has control of the leg.

Kii wants to work for an arm triangle but Cornholio is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Kii thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Cornholio's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Suu Kii dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Kii throws the left hand but Cornholio avoids the punch easily.

Cornholio clinches.
Kii tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Cornholio's elbow.
Kii is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Cornholio is defending well for now.
Cornholio wants to take the fight to the mat but Kii manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Cornholio jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Kii walks away with a smile on his face. Cornholio gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Kii does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Horrible takedown by Cornholio or perhaps it was just good defense by Kii which made him look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Great Cornholio. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Cornholio moves in looking to clinch but Kii pushes him off.
Cornholio checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Cornholio takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

Kii wants to slow Cornholio down by chopping away at his legs.
Kii does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Cornholio closes this distance looking for a takedown but Kii circles away.

Cornholio has closed the distance and engaged Kii in a clinch.
Cornholio wants to stall.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Cornholio tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Kii smiles and moves away.
Cornholio dives in and grabs Kii's left leg, looking for a takedown. Kii pushes down on Cornholio's head and hops out.
Kii ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Cornholio moves away.
Cornholio on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Kii. Kii obviously looking to wear him down.

Cornholio drives through and clinches with Kii against the cage.
A battle for position here, against the cage.
Cornholio blocks an uppercut.
Kii is trying to maintain a safe position but Cornholio gets an underhook and turns Kii into the cage.
Kii misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Cornholio.

Cornholio prevents a body shot from Kii.
Cornholio tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Kii looking to throw knees to the head but Cornholio is blocking nicely.
Cornholio avoiding damage as Kii throws knees to the body.

Cornholio breaks the clinch.

Cornholio shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Cornholio tries to free his leg and advance position but Kii is retaining full guard.
Kii controls Cornholio momentarily but Cornholio frees himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kii is trying to control the position but Cornholio postures up.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Kii is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Horrible takedown by Cornholio or perhaps it was just good defense by Kii which made him look bad.
Kii swings for the body but Cornholio moves out of range.
Kii waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Cornholio.

Cornholio clinches with his opponent.

Cornholio is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Kii is defending well.

Cornholio has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Kii is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Cornholio blocks an uppercut.
Cornholio jumps guard but Kii stands there with Cornholio around his waist. Cornholio gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Kii controlling the action here for a moment.
A nice left hand lands by Kii.
Kii misses with a punch on the inside.
Cornholio has Kii pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Kii manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cornholio's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Kii connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Cornholio scrambles back to his feet.
Kii throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kii fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Cornholio is out of range.

Cornholio clinches up against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Great Cornholio will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Kii throws a front kick aimed at Cornholio's knee but Cornholio avoids it well.
Cornholio cracks Kii with an open hand slap.
Kii stuffs the takedown.
Cornholio goes for a double leg but Kii avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Kii continues to drive forward.
Cornholio is looking to take this one to the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Great Cornholio. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Cornholio has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Kii regains guard immediately.
Kii bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Cornholio's guard.
Kii must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Kii is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Cornholio has momentary wrist control but Kii slips an elbow through the middle.
Kii wants to control from the top but Cornholio keeps moving.
Kii works over Cornholio with some ground and pound from guard.

Kii pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Cornholio is keeping the position for now.

Kii wants to control from the top but Cornholio keeps moving.
Cornholio is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Cornholio slips under a jab.
Cornholio looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kii is fending him off so far but Cornholio persists. Nope, Kii circles away and we're back to standing.

Cornholio wants to take the fight to the mat but Kii manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Cornholio turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Cornholio manages to end up in side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Kii gets back to half guard.
Suu Kii has got the better of the ground game so far.
Kii desperately trying to maintain half guard.

Cornholio is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Kii has managed to free his arm - good work.

Kii makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Kii.
Cornholio wants to stand and escape but instead Kii has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Kii works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Kii is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Cornholio has managed to free his arm - good work.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Kii is looking for a kimura but Cornholio is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kii to get the leverage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kii working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

And that's the end of the fight!
Suu Kii comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Kii has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

During a confident post fight interview, Suu Kii thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
In defeat, Great Cornholio stepped up to the mic, saying 'Sorry I couldnt get it done. The better dude won tonight if he tapped me or knocked me out, but if it was a decision, well, the judges are about as retarded as in Nevada or need a serious eye exam...either way, I WILL be back, stronger and better than ever, to prove I am simply excellent. '.
