Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Papa Newbag! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, David King! The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Leandro Rodrigues and Alexandre Firmino.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! King tries to close the distance and clinch but Newbag swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Newbag shoots for a takedown but King saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. King doesn't succeed with the takedown and Newbag counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Newbag. Newbag wants to pass the guard but King is keeping the position. Newbag is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. King keeping full guard, as Newbag tries to pass. King wants to stand and escape but Newbag is having none of it. King is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first. King really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Newbag. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. King keeping full guard, as Newbag tries to pass.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. King fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Newbag, pushing him back against the cage. King prevents a takedown attempt there.
King manages to break the clinch.
King throws out a loose jab but Newbag uses good head movement to avoid it. King has taken the fight to the clinch.
King breaks from the clinch.
Newbag tries for a takedown but King circles away easily and King counters with a single leg into guard. Newbag didn't expect that. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Papa Newbag. That's going to take a lot out of him. King wants to pass the guard but Newbag is keeping the position. Newbag manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. King manages to get himself to full guard.
Newbag is breathing heavily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Newbag won't allow King to sweep him here. Newbag is pushing down on King's leg trying to pass to half guard. King is fighting to maintain full guard but Newbag has managed to sneak the leg through. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Newbag is working for a submission of some sort.
Newbag is looking to pass King's guard but actually King recovers to full guard. King manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. King moves into the clinch successfully.
King turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
That's three minutes gone in the round. King stands up and we're back to a striking position. King swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Newbag gets a takedown into half guard. Newbag wants to work for an arm triangle but King is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
King is looking to improve his position.
King is trying to stand back up but Newbag is controlling him
Newbag has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Newbag throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! King has his hands clasped together but Newbag breaks the hold and King is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Newbag!
