PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Johny Rico (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Milpid (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rico's entrance music is Bolt Thrower - The IVth Crusade . A fine choice. Milpid comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Stupify kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 1, fighting out of The Island, Johny Rico!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jack Milpid!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Winston Alpacca and Dirk Anderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Milpid bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Rico on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Rico tries to get out of the position.

Milpid wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Rico, who protects the arm well.

Milpid is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Rico has escaped the position, nice work there.
Rico is looking for a sweep.
Rico can't do much from the bottom here.
Milpid is looking to take a break and control but Rico is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Milpid tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Milpid tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Milpid has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Rico tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Milpid tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

A bit of a lull in the action here.

Milpid is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Rico is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Milpid lands a decent elbow from side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rico is looking to reverse the position.

Milpid looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Milpid thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Rico is looking for a sweep.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Milpid wants to control but Rico is keeping him busy.
Rico tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Milpid wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Milpid is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Rico has escaped the position, nice work there.

Rico regains half guard.
Rico is doing well to control the position and prevent Milpid from advancing to side control.
Rico tries to get to full guard but Milpid has control of the leg.
Milpid wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rico keeps working.
Milpid missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Rico wants to improve his position but Milpid is controlling well.

Milpid is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Rico has managed to free his arm - good work.
Milpid thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Rico's head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Milpid is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Milpid is working for a kimura but Rico is defending it quite comfortably.

Milpid is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Rico is just riding it out for now. Milpid eventually gives up the hold.

Rico is defending against the submission attempts here by Milpid.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rico keeping control of the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jack Milpid dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Rico feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Milpid is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Rico stands and throws Milpid's legs to the side, diving into side control.

The fighters are battling for position here. Milpid manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Milpid had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Rico defends it easily.

Milpid is looking to cinch up a triangle. Rico throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Milpid's body to avoid the submission. Milpid has instead reached around Rico's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Milpid arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Jack Milpid!
A relieved looking Jack Milpid thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
