Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
27 - 34 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Pinkynho Romeiro! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
14 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Arthur Pirozhkov! The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Vladimir Khabensky and Igor Prikhodko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Romeiro throws out a leg kick but Pirozhkov moves out of range and Romeiro only half commits. Romeiro finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Romeiro buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Pirozhkov avoids the head kick by Romeiro.
Pirozhkov circles away from the clinch attempt.
Romeiro is looking to slow Pirozhkov down with leg kicks. Romeiro catches Pirozhkov with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong! Pinkynho Romeiro seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A telegraphed right hand from Romeiro misses the target. Romeiro looks to land a left hand but Pirozhkov moved out of range nicely. Pirozhkov doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. The fighters circling - Romeiro throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Romeiro misses with a looping right. Romeiro works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Romeiro misses the shot to the body. A big left from Romeiro misses.
That's one minute gone in the round. Romeiro throws a lazy right hand but Pirozhkov sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Romeiro throws a low kick but it's checked well by Pirozhkov. Pirozhkov moves out of range of the strikes. Romeiro misses with a low kick as Pirozhkov jumps back. Romeiro pivots, looking for a leg kick but Pirozhkov is out of range and Romeiro settles back down. Excellent takedown into side control there by Pirozhkov. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Pirozhkov wants to control but Romeiro is keeping him busy. Pirozhkov thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Pirozhkov wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Romeiro, who protects the arm well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pirozhkov looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Romeiro takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Pirozhkov controls the position. Pirozhkov tries for a kimura but Romeiro is defending well. Pirozhkov looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Romeiro really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Romeiro is trying to escape and get back to his feet. Pirozhkov has an Americana. Romeiro didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Pirozhkov is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Pirozhkov hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
