Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sven Svenbjorn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sherman Melvin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sven Svenbjorn! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sherman Melvin! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Matheus Silva and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Melvin shoots in and bounces Svenbjorn off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Svenbjorn is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Melvin postures up and lands a big shot to Svenbjorn's brow. Melvin trying to control the position from guard on top but Svenbjorn is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Svenbjorn has his hands on Melvin's head, controlling the position. Melvin chips away with some ground and pound. Melvin missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Melvin has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
That's one minute gone in the round. Melvin throws and elbow that misses. Svenbjorn uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Melvin's guard. Nice move by Svenbjorn! Melvin wants to sweep but no luck. Melvin trying to keep a closed guard but Svenbjorn is proving a slippery customer.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Melvin shoots in but Svenbjorn avoids the takedown attempt easily. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Melvin. Svenbjorn closes the distance and clinches. Melvin wants a takedown.
Sven Svenbjorn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sherman Melvin. Svenbjorn works on Melvin's body with a couple of short punches. Melvin looks gassed! Svenbjorn has had enough of the clinch but Melvin keeps him there for the moment. Svenbjorn wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Svenbjorn turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Svenbjorn manages to end up in side control. Melvin is trying to improve his position. Svenbjorn stands up. Svenbjorn moves into the clinch. Svenbjorn gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Melvin.

Sven Svenbjorn dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Svenbjorn shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Melvin as he jumps to the side. Svenbjorn fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Melvin on the side of the head. Melvin wants to clinch but Svenbjorn slips to the side and Svenbjorn counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Svenbjorn is looking to advance position but Melvin won't allow it. Svenbjorn slows the pace down in half guard. It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Svenbjorn here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man. Svenbjorn seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Melvin for as long as he can get away with. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Melvin can do anything to dispel that myth. Melvin is trying to control but can't.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Melvin moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Melvin tries to land a sweep but no joy. Melvin working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Svenbjorn doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Svenbjorn manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Melvin is breathing heavily. Svenbjorn tries to stand but Melvin is controlling from the bottom. Svenbjorn has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Svenbjorn trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Svenbjorn postures up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground. Melvin with a poor takedown and Svenbjorn holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Svenbjorn wants to get back to striking at distance but Melvin won't allow it.
Svenbjorn wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Svenbjorn manages to break the clinch.
Melvin shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Svenbjorn counters with a left to the body. Melvin takes a body punch but keeps moving. Svenbjorn lands with a kick to the ribs.

That's going to take a lot out of Sherman Melvin. Svenbjorn stuns Melvin with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Melvin circles away from the clinch attempt.
Melvin misses with a takedown and Svenbjorn counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Melvin thinking. Sherman Melvin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fight moves into the clinch position. Svenbjorn prevents a takedown attempt there.

Melvin had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Svenbjorn is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Melvin Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Svenbjorn's back instead. A lull in the action here.
Svenbjorn is taking damage to the body and head. Melvin scores with a nice shot to the head of his opponent. Svenbjorn is looking for a way out. Svenbjorn tries to escape the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Melvin tightening his grip on Svenbjorn, looking for the choke. Svenbjorn is keeping busy.

Melvin is looking for a choke. Svenbjorn gets to his feet with his opponent on his back and slams him to the mat. Svenbjorn manages to squirm out of the attempted choke and turns into his opponent's guard. Svenbjorn is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Svenbjorn is looking to work some ground and pound but Melvin has wrist control. Melvin controlling Svenbjorn's posture. Melvin looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Svenbjorn seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Melvin is striking off his back. Svenbjorn thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard. Svenbjorn is thwarting Melvin's attempts to control the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Svenbjorn escapes and gets back to his feet. Svenbjorn lands with a shot to the body. Melvin fails with the takedown and Svenbjorn holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Svenbjorn wants a takedown.

Sherman Melvin has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Svenbjorn prevents Melvin from improving his position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Svenbjorn trying to control the action but Melvin is working from the bottom.
And that's the end of the fight! Sven Svenbjorn showed his dominance in that final round. Well Svenbjorn has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
