PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jonny Blane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sean Mccurdy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Jonny Blane has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Jonny Blane!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Sean Mccurdy!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, James Atkins and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mccurdy stalks Blane and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Blane's face. Blane staggers backwards, shaken.
Blane connects with a good right hand that stumbles Mccurdy. Mccurdy circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Mccurdy swats away the attempt to clinch by Blane.
Blane looks to score with a jab to the body but Mccurdy is just out of range.

Mccurdy throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Blane tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Mccurdy is in Blane's guard.

Blane is looking for a triangle but Mccurdy pushes his legs off easily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Blane escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mccurdy gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Mccurdy is looking to stand up but Blane won't let him.
Blane looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Mccurdy wants to stand but Blane is controlling his posture from full guard.
Blane throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mccurdy showing good wrestling skills to control the position.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Sean Mccurdy wasn't active enough on the ground.
Mccurdy misses with a double jab.
Mccurdy tries to clinch up but Blane circles away and keeps his distance.
No joy there for Mccurdy, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Mccurdy tries a head kick but it misses.
Blane circles away from the clinch attempt.
Mccurdy wants to clinch up but Blane keeps it at a distance.

A looping hook to the body misses from Blane. Mccurdy does a little dance to reset his feet.
Blane throws a nice looking combination but Mccurdy bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Blane throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Blane digs a good hook to Mccurdy's body.

Mccurdy scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Blane flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Blane is looking to improve his position.
Mccurdy controlling the action here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Blane wants to get back to full guard.
Mccurdy content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Blane is trying to stand.
Blane is breathing heavily.

Mccurdy seems to be working for a kimura but Blane defends the submission attempt.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Sean Mccurdy was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Mccurdy shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Mccurdy is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Blane controls Mccurdy momentarily but Mccurdy frees himself.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Blane lands a couple of shots from the bottom.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Sean Mccurdy was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Mccurdy shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Blane but Blane pushes him off and we're back to square one.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Mccurdy shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Blane manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Blane looking to control.
Mccurdy seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Mccurdy is looking to stand up but Blane won't let him.
Blane wants to sweep here but Mccurdy controlling him for the moment.

We're going to have a standup here because Jonny Blane wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Mccurdy closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Blane did well to prevent Mccurdy getting side control.
Blane throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Mccurdy wants to work for an arm triangle but Blane is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Mccurdy is controlling the pace.
Mccurdy tries to pass the half guard into mount. Blane knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Blane is looking for a sweep. Mccurdy is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Mccurdy is taking a breather. Blane says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Blane is looking to control Mccurdy's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Blane avoid being mounted?

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Mccurdy closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Mccurdy wants to stand but Blane has his arm trapped.
Mccurdy controlling the position.
Blane tries to strike but it doesn't land.

Mccurdy working the ground and pound.
Mccurdy is trying to ground and pound but Blane uses the momentary lack of control by Mccurdy to regain half guard.
Mccurdy slows the pace down in half guard.
Blane is trying to get back to full guard.
Blane pushes Mccurdy off looking to stand but Mccurdy dives back in and keeps control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Mccurdy passes to side control.
Mccurdy gets to mount! Blane was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

Mccurdy sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Blane tries to buck Mccurdy off but he can't manage it.
Mccurdy controlling the position easily from mount.

Mccurdy is working for a guillotine from mount but Blane frees his head quite easily.
Mccurdy landing strikes from the mount.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
BOOM! Mccurdy connects with a massive shot to the dome!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sean Mccurdy showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Mccurdy pivots, looking for a leg kick but Blane is out of range and Mccurdy settles back down.
Blane moves in looking to clinch but Mccurdy pushes him off.
A head kick by Mccurdy misses
and Blane counters with a low kick, right behind Mccurdy 's knee.
Blane lands with a thumping leg kick.
Mccurdy shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Blane as he jumps to the side.
Blane goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Blane tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Mccurdy paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Blane punishes Mccurdy's body with a nice straight punch.
Mccurdy takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Mccurdy shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Blane as he avoids it easily.
Blane works Mccurdy's body with a nice hook.
A combination from Blane does no damage.
Jonny Blane is winning the standup battle so far.
Blane lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Blane lands a right hook to the body.
Blane scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Mccurdy avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Blane with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Blane throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Blane throws a push kick but Mccurdy slaps the foot to one side.
Blane catches Mccurdy with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Mccurdy steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Blane. That one must have hurt.
Blane tries to clinch there but Mccurdy circles away.
Blane is looking to clinch but Mccurdy is avoiding it.
A left lands for Blane.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mccurdy keeps the fight on the outside.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Blane tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Mccurdy manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Jonny Blane is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Mccurdy blocks a head kick by Blane.
Blane tries a low kick but Mccurdy avoids it.
Mccurdy keeps the fight on the outside.
Mccurdy fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Jonny Blane has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sean Mccurdy.
Blane moves in looking to clinch but Mccurdy pushes him off.

and Mccurdy counters with a shoot takedown. Blane fights it but they end up in guard.

Blane looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Mccurdy keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Blane's head.

Blane is looking to stand up but Mccurdy isn't so interested in that idea.
Blane wants to sweep here but Mccurdy controlling him for the moment.
Mccurdy controlling from the top position.
Mccurdy throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Blane works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Mccurdy controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Let's hope that Mccurdy has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Sean Mccurdy hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Mccurdy fails to land the takedown.

Mccurdy takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Mccurdy stuffs the takedown.
Mccurdy shoots in and drives through. Blane sprawls well.

Blane instigates a clinch.
Mccurdy gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Blane.
Mccurdy tries to land a knee to the head but Blane blocks with his arms.
Jonny Blane has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Sean Mccurdy is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
The referee calls for Mccurdy to work.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jonny Blane showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Mccurdy has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
