PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mick Mutters (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bo Bice (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mutters comes to the cage accompanied by Hand of Doom. Bice has chosen Witness - Bo Bice as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mutters closes the distance looking to clinch

and Bice counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Bice throws a big elbow that misses.
Mutters wants to sweep here but Bice controlling him for the moment.
Bice stops Mutters from standing up.
Bice throws a big right hand that misses.

Bice drops back, looking for a kneebar! Mutters looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Mutters looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Mutters!
Mutters tries to stand but Bice is controlling his head.
Bice tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Mutters wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Bice keeps trying to improve his position.
Mutters remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The fighters circle momentarily. Mutters darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Bice manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Bice escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mutters gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Mutters is stalling in the full guard.

Bice has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mutters can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Mutters has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Mutters wants to get up but he can't break Bice's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Bice wants to sweep here but Mutters controlling him for the moment.

Mutters got a little sloppy there for a moment and Bice has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mutters has managed to get both his arms back between Bice's legs - danger averted.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mutters tries to pass to full mount but Bice defends it.
Mutters is keen to just control but Bice is a slippery customer.
Mutters prevents Bice from improving his position.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

A close round but Bo Bice will probably get the nod.

Mutters tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Bice manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Mutters slaps away a takedown attempt from Bice, before circling back to the center of the mat.

so Bice counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Bice working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

Bice thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Bice stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mutters swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Mutters wants to stand but Bice is controlling the position.

Bice has gone for a leg lock! Mutters slips out almost immediately though and dives into Bice's guard.

Bice escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mutters gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Bice bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Mutters's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mutters utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Bice sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Mutters's guard.
Bice passes to full mount!
Bice looking to ground and pound but Mutters is blocking nicely.
Bice is landing with some decent strikes but Mutters is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Bice moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Mutters has worked his arm free - good work by Mutters!
Mutters is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Bice asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Bice thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Mutters tries to buck Bice off but Bice is having none of it.

Mutters takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Bice looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Bice tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Bice is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Mutters has escaped the position, nice work there.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Bice is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Mutters knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Bice in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Mutters is tapping! That's the end of the fight!
