Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Leon Jobling! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Sam Mizo! The judges for this bout are James Glass, Colin Fotheringham and James Atkins.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jobling leaves Mizo with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Jobling slaps away a takedown attempt from Mizo, before circling back to the center of the mat. Jobling goes for a double leg but Mizo avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Mizo continues to drive forward. Jobling pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Jobling shoots in for a double leg but Mizo sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Jobling throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mizo's waist but Mizo gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jobling off to one side. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Leon Jobling. That's going to take a lot out of him. Jobling lands the left hand. Mizo fails with the takedown. Jobling stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Jobling wants it to stay on the feet. Mizo defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Jobling. Sam Mizo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Mizo shoots in looking for a takedown. Jobling tries to sprawl out of it but Mizo keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Jobling manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Jobling lands a slapping body shot.
No luck for Mizo with that takedown attempt. Mizo shoots in but Jobling avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mizo takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Mizo looks winded! Mizo looking to score a takedown here. Jobling is defending well but Mizo drives through and ends up in Jobling's guard. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Mizo stopping the sweep attempt from Jobling. Mizo tries to free his leg and advance position but Jobling is retaining full guard. Jobling is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Jobling trying to control the position.
Mizo drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Jobling manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Mizo has Jobling in his guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Jobling looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jobling in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Jobling postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Mizo looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Jobling trying to control but Mizo is working from the bottom. Mizo is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Jobling defends well. Jobling trying to control the position from guard on top but Mizo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mizo looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Jobling has picked Mizo up and slammed him! Mizo can't keep hold of the triangle and Jobling manages to pass to side control! Jobling is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. Mizo is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Jobling's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Jobling tries to pass the half guard into mount. Mizo knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Jobling is trying to control. Mizo wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Mizo is trying to stand.
Mizo looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Jobling wants to free his trapped foot but Mizo is holding on for dear life with his legs.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mizo is refusing to be controlled, as Jobling sits in half guard. Mizo gets full guard. Jobling has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Mizo to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Jobling is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Mizo pulls down on the head and he's put Jobling to sleep! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:37 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Sam Mizo! A very excited looking Sam Mizo made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
