The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mayer is looking to clinch.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Mayer fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Merritt looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

It looks like Prince Merritt has been cut.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Merritt crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Mayer - the referee stops the clock and Merritt gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Mayer. Merritt manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Mayer tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Merritt paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Mayer doesn't manage to clinch there - Merritt circles away.

Mayer is struggling to control the position.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Mayer avoids a wild elbow strike from Merritt.

Mayer pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Mayer wants to clinch up but Merritt keeps it at a distance.

Mayer moves into range and clinches up with Merritt.
Merritt's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

Mayer dips a shoulder and cracks Merritt with a mighty uppercut! Merritt falls back against the cage and Mayer unloads with a barrage of strikes! Merritt is completely out with his eyes open, only supported by the cage! Save him ref! Eventually the ref decides to do his job and jumps in - Mayer screams abuse at the incompetent official before going over to celebrate with his corner. Brutal stuff!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:43 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Oscar Mayer!
