Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Anthony Nixon! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jose Martinez! The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Santiago Holmes and Sandra Marshall.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nixon keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Martinez moves into range and clinches up with Nixon. Martinez tries for a takedown but Nixon manages to get underhooks.
Nixon definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Martinez wants the takedown. Nixon is fighting it off but Martinez persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Nixon's guard against the cage. Nixon looking to control.
Nixon wants to get back to his feet but Martinez is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Martinez's corner is telling him to maintain position. Nixon is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Martinez is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
We're going to have a standup here because Anthony Nixon wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Martinez tries for a takedown but Nixon sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Anthony Nixon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jose Martinez. Nixon throws a lazy uppercut
and Martinez counters by clinching up. Nixon really is a fat lump. Martinez stalling against the cage.
That's one minute gone in the round. A frustrated look appears on Nixon's face as he tries to break the clinch. Nixon lands a left hand that snaps the head of Martinez backwards. Martinez pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Nixon rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Martinez counters by clinching up. Nixon wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Martinez has him pressed against the cage. Nixon wants to break the clinch but can't.
Nixon is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath. Martinez breaks the clinch.
Nixon fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Martinez shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Nixon but Nixon pushes him off and we're back to square one. Nixon tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Martinez was well out of range. Poor timing from Nixon. Martinez keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nixon thows a left - swing and a miss! Anthony Nixon is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Martinez. Martinez tries to score a power double leg takedown but Nixon sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Martinez somewhat. Nixon misses the jab. Martinez fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Nixon fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Martinez manages to avoid it. Martinez shoots for a takedown but Nixon saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Martinez fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Nixon sprawls well initially but Martinez persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Martinez looks winded! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Nixon wants to control but Martinez is keeping busy.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Nixon has his hands clasped together around Martinez's back. He's all about the action. Nixon looks like he's trying to stand up.
Martinez decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet. A combination from Nixon does no damage. Nixon swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Martinez fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Nixon tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Martinez was well out of range. Poor timing from Nixon.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Nixon scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent. Martinez takes the fight into the clinch. Martinez manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Martinez fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Martinez keeps control of Nixon as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Martinez has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Nixon uses from the top position. Martinez looking for a sweep. Not yet Martinez, not yet. Martinez is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Nixon is aware though and is defending well. This has been an exciting period of action! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Nixon trying to control the position from guard on top but Martinez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Nixon avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jose Martinez dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Nixon lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Martinez circles away quickly and effectively. Martinez keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
A big right from Nixon misses. Nixon looks to land a combination. Martinez sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
It looks like Jose Martinez has been cut. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Martinez. Nixon misses the shot to the body. Nixon misses with a looping right. Nixon is looking to wear down Martinez with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment. Martinez throws a sloppy body shot
and Nixon counters with a stiff right hand. Martinez moves out of range of the strikes. Martinez shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Nixon's jab looks to have found its range, popping Martinez under the eye.

Martinez keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Nixon. Anthony Nixon is winning the standup battle so far. Nixon looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Nixon fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Martinez on the side of the head. Nixon misses with the combination.
Jose Martinez is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Nixon throws a right and a left that both miss. Martinez instigates a clinch. Nixon wants to get back to striking at distance but Martinez won't allow it.

Nixon has had enough of the clinch but Martinez keeps him there for the moment. Martinez lands a nice elbow from the clinch.

Nixon looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Nixon is trying to force a seperation but Martinez has the dominant position. Martinez slows down the pace here.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Martinez closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Martinez perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Nixon might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Nixon is trying to control but can't.
Nixon wants to get back to his feet. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Martinez connects with a nice short shot to Nixon's temple. Martinez seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Nixon is trying to stand back up but Martinez is controlling him
Martinez moves nicely into side control. Nixon seems a little lost for a moment, as Martinez dominates the positioning.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Nixon wants to control but Martinez postures up. Martinez stands up and we're back to a striking position. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Martinez has closed the distance and engaged Nixon in a clinch.
Martinez breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Nixon scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Nixon scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. No joy there for Martinez, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Martinez is breathing heavily. Martinez keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Martinez tries to clinch up but Nixon circles away and keeps his distance. Nixon throws a right hand that Martinez ducks under and follows up with a left that Martinez also avoids with ease. Nixon throws a body punch but Martinez moves out of range. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Anthony Nixon will probably get the nod. Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!
Martinez uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Nixon.
Nixon cracks Martinez with a right hand to the side of the head. Nixon closes the distance and lands a one-two. A punch combination from Nixon misses. Martinez gets in close and instigates a clinch. Nixon is fighting off a takedown attempt but Martinez is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Nixon to the mat. Nixon regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. Martinez won't allow Nixon to get back to his feet. Martinez is pushing down on Nixon's leg trying to pass to half guard. Nixon is fighting to maintain full guard but Martinez has managed to sneak the leg through. Nixon tries to get to full guard but Martinez has control of the leg. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Martinez is pressing down on Nixon's thigh, looking to free his foot. Nixon is holding on for now. Martinez trying to control the pace.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jose Martinez wasn't active enough on the ground. Martinez closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Nixon quickly recovers to half guard. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Martinez is trying for a kimura here. Nixon looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Martinez wins by kimura!
