The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A right-left combo lands from Ives. Miric lands with a hook. Ives tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. Ives darts in and out, connecting with a jab. Miric dives in for a single leg takedown but Ives sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Ives pulls guard successfully.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Ives looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Miric passes into half guard.

Ives is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Ives postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Miric digs a good body shot into Ives's ribs. Zivojin Miric is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Ives moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. enabling Ives to counter with a crisp jab. Miric lands a nice shot that snaps Ives's head back.
Miric fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Ives on the side of the head. Ives throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Miric tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Ives is in Miric's guard. Ives looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Miric looks for a takedown but Ives sprawls well. Ives throws a right hand that Miric ducks under and follows up with a left that Miric also avoids with ease. Miric shoots in for a double leg but Ives sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Miric keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Ives. Miric throws a shot from downtown. Ives moves away and avoids it. Miric gets a takedown into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ives is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Ives wants to control but Miric is keeping busy.
