PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Marcel Humphrey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and RJ Swayze (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Swayze has chosen Sail (Awolnation cover)- Devil Driver as his entrance music. RJ Swayze is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Marcel Humphrey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, RJ Swayze!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Robert Douchet and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Swayze pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Swayze shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Swayze tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Humphrey manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Humphrey displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Swayze.
Swayze lands a head kick!


It looks like Marcel Humphrey has been cut.
Humphrey could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Humphrey shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Humphrey postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Swayze to stand up.

Humphrey circles away from the clinch attempt.
Humphrey leaves Swayze with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Marcel Humphrey has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of RJ Swayze.
Swayze tries to clinch but Humphrey is having none of it.
Humphrey keeps the fight on the outside.

Humphrey has Swayze up against the cage in a clinch.
Swayze lands a hook that snaps the head of Humphrey backwards.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Swayze creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Humphrey thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Swayze's head.
Swayze is looking for a sweep. Humphrey is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Humphrey decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Swayze tries to close the distance and clinch up but Humphrey swats him away and circles back towards the center.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Swayze breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Humphrey swats away the attempt to clinch by Swayze.

and Humphrey counters with a shoot takedown. Swayze fights it but they end up in guard.

Humphrey stands and steps away. Swayze gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Swayze breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

and Humphrey holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Swayze pushes Humphrey back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Humphrey tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Swayze pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Swayze misses with a takedown attempt
and Humphrey counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Swayze looks winded!

Humphrey misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Swayze wants to clinch up but Humphrey keeps it at a distance.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Humphrey fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Humphrey looks for a takedown but Swayze sprawls well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Marcel Humphrey will probably get the nod.

Swayze wants to clinch.
Swayze fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Humphrey avoids it really well and circles away.
Marcel Humphrey is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Swayze moves into range and clinches up with Humphrey.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Swayze blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Humphrey has Swayze pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Swayze manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Humphrey's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Humphrey has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Swayze is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Humphrey tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Swayze was well out of range. Poor timing from Humphrey.

and Swayze counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Humphrey looks to score with a jab to the body but Swayze is just out of range.
Humphrey keeps the fight on the outside.

and Humphrey counters with a right hand to the body.
RJ Swayze seems to be getting the better of the standup.

and Humphrey counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Swayze looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Humphrey is fending him off so far but Swayze persists. Nope, Humphrey circles away and we're back to standing.
Swayze is breathing heavily.
Swayze tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Humphrey swivels and escapes.
Swayze tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Humphrey cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Swayze tries to clinch up but Humphrey circles away and keeps his distance.
Humphrey misses with a double jab.
Swayze misses with a takedown attempt - Humphrey sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Humphrey shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Humphrey stands up from half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Swayze tries to clinch up.
Swayze fails in his attempt to clinch.
Swayze is looking to clinch.
Humphrey avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Humphrey throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Swayze was covering up waiting for the punch and Humphrey finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Humphrey stands up from guard. Let's bang!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Marcel Humphrey will probably get the nod.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Humphrey stuffs the takedown attempt from Swayze. Swayze gets slowly back to his feet.

Swayze moves into the clinch.
Swayze tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Humphrey just stands there and leans against the cage.

Humphrey pulls guard effortlessly.
Humphrey is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Humphrey tries to strike from the bottom.
Swayze trying to stand up but can't free himself from Humphrey's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Swayze takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Swayze gets to his feet. Humphrey looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Humphrey misses with a jab, cross combination.

Humphrey closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Humphrey content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Humphrey is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Swayze is just riding it out for now. Humphrey eventually gives up the hold.

Swayze is trying to maintain the position but Humphrey is very close to passing his half guard.
RJ Swayze has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Swayze is defending against the submission attempts here by Humphrey.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Swayze is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Humphrey wants to control but Swayze is keeping him busy.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Marcel Humphrey wasn't doing enough on the ground.

RJ Swayze seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Humphrey throws a series of punches but Swayze avoids them all with ease.
Marcel Humphrey is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Marcel Humphrey.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Humphrey, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
