PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ted Butler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter Yaruga (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ted Butler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Peter Yaruga!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Butler blocks a jab.

Yaruga shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Yaruga is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Butler knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Yaruga on the ground.

Butler had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Yaruga defends it easily.
Butler really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Butler trying to keep a closed guard but Yaruga is proving a slippery customer.
Yaruga throws a big right hand that misses.
Butler doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Yaruga is fighting to break Butler's control of his arms but Butler is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Butler looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Yaruga passes into half guard.
Yaruga wants to take a breather but Butler is having none of it.
Butler misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Butler trying to hold on to Yaruga's head to control him but Yaruga postures up.
Yaruga thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Butler's head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Yaruga is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Yaruga takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Butler is trying to stand back up but Yaruga is controlling him

Butler is breathing heavily.
Yaruga throwing shots but Butler is blocking nicely.

Yaruga looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Butler wants to get back to his feet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Yaruga is keen to just control but Butler is a slippery customer.

Yaruga is working for a kimura but Butler is defending it quite comfortably.
Butler is looking to control Yaruga's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Butler avoid being mounted?

Yaruga is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Yaruga wants to pass the guard but Butler is defending well.

Butler is looking to control Yaruga's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Butler avoid being mounted?

Butler is not content to let Yaruga control the position.

Yaruga decides to stand back up.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Yaruga closes the distance and clinches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Peter Yaruga dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Yaruga tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Yaruga gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Butler.
Peter Yaruga seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Yaruga moves into the clinch.
Butler stops a takedown attempt from Yaruga.

Yaruga wants the takedown. Butler is fighting it off but Yaruga persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Butler's guard against the cage.

Yaruga got a little sloppy there for a moment and Butler has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Yaruga has managed to get both his arms back between Butler's legs - danger averted.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Yaruga has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Butler is proving hard to escape from.
Butler not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Butler looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Yaruga has picked Butler up and slammed him! Butler can't keep hold of the triangle and Yaruga manages to pass to side control!

Yaruga tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Yaruga has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Peter Yaruga has got the better of the ground game so far.
Butler parries the strikes from Yaruga easily there. Yaruga is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Butler to escape.
Butler is looking to regain half guard here but Yaruga keeps moving and retains side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Butler is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Yaruga is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Yaruga looks up at the clock and then as Butler takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Yaruga smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Yaruga tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Yaruga has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Yaruga looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Butler is avoiding damage well.
Butler wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.
Butler is not content to let Yaruga control the position.
Butler tries to control but Yaruga manages to take his back.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Butler trying to control the hands but Yaruga won't let him.
Butler wants to get back to his feet.

Yaruga has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Butler has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Butler is trying to defend against the choke here but Yaruga has an arm under his chin. This one might not last much longer. Yaruga Tightens the hold and Butler taps out furiously! Yaruga displays superior BJJ to win the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:45 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Peter Yaruga!
Peter Yaruga seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
