PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ip Man (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Takashi Kadota (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Man comes to the cage accompanied by GZA-Sparring Minds. Kadota has chosen OUT FOR A RIP as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ip Man!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Takashi Kadota!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Stewart Dunkirk and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Man shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Man misses the shot to the body.
Man throws a leg kick

and Kadota counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Kadota is keen to just control but Man is a slippery customer.

Kadota looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Man is defending against the submission attempts here by Kadota.
Man wants to control but Kadota is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kadota looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Kadota throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Kadota is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Man to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Man holds on and takes a little breather.

Man keeping moving, preventing Kadota from controlling successfully.
Man pulls Kadota in to control the position.
Kadota won't allow Man to sweep him here.
Kadota throws an elbow that misses. Man uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Kadota's guard. Nice move by Man!
Man is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Man wants to control from the top but Kadota keeps moving.

Man preventing the sweep.
Kadota keeps trying to improve his position.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Man postures up.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Ip Man just wasn't active enough.
Kadota misses with a lunging right hand
and Man counters with a good, hard body kick but Kadota shrugs it off.
Kadota lands a jab to the nose.
Kadota pushes Man away with a front kick.
Kadota pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Kadota comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Kadota lands a head kick!


It looks like Ip Man has been cut.
Kadota bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Man's head backwards.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Kadota throws a head kick but Man moves out of range.
Kadota throws a lazy body kick
and Man counters with a nice body kick.
Kadota throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Kadota throws a right and a left that Man avoids nicely.
Kadota throws a hook but Man blocks it.
Kadota displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Man throws out the jab.
Man checks a low kick from Kadota.
Kadota on the wrong end of a kick to the body.

and Kadota counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Man controlling the position for now.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Man wants to improve his position but Kadota is controlling well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Takashi Kadota dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Ip Man's cut.

Kadota looks to score with a jab to the body but Man is just out of range.
Man scores with a nice strike.
Man moves out of range of the strikes.
Kadota just misses with a punch to the body.
Kadota tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Man swivels and escapes.
Man takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?

Man blocks a jab.
Man connects with an inside leg kick.
Man connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Takashi Kadota seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Kadota throws out a powerful jab.
A looping hook to the body misses from Kadota. Man does a little dance to reset his feet.
Kadota throws a push kick but Man slaps the foot to one side.

A big right from Kadota misses.
Kadota tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Man was well out of range. Poor timing from Kadota.
Man takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Kadota scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Kadota throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Man moves away from the strike by Kadota.
Man steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Kadota. That one must have hurt.
Kadota turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Man connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Kadota's hands.
Nice takedown defense from Man. No joy for Kadota on that attempt.

Man throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Man wants to clinch.
Man throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Kadota thows a body kick. Man tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Man lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Man moves into range and clinches up with Kadota.
Kadota is trying to stall.
Kadota is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Ip Man has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Takashi Kadota.
Man blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Kadota misses with the head strike.
Man misses with a punch to the body.
Kadota misses with a short punch on the inside.
Kadota misses with a hook from the clinch.

Kadota blocks an uppercut.
Kadota throws a punch but it's blocked by Man.
Man gets through Kadota's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

Man digs a right hand into Kadota's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Kadota's gas tank.

Kadota is trying to break free.
Man blocks an uppercut.
Kadota avoids the elbow strike from Man, against the cage.
Man lands a hook that snaps the head of Kadota backwards.
Kadota trying to stall but Man improves his position.
Kadota has a couple of punches blocked by Man.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Kadota misses with a short punch on the inside.
Man tries a body shot but Kadota blocks it.

Kadota lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Man won't allow Kadota to pass to mount.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Man wants to control but Kadota is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Kadota throwing shots but Man is blocking nicely.
Man regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Kadota.
Kadota wants to pass the guard but Man is keeping the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kadota trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Takashi Kadota will probably get the nod - 10:9.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Man tries to sprawl but Kadota drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Kadota is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Man doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Kadota.

Man utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Man is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Kadota throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Man works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Takashi Kadota has got the better of the ground game so far.

Kadota is pushing down on Man's leg trying to pass to half guard. Man is fighting to maintain full guard but Kadota has managed to sneak the leg through.
Kadota wants to control but Man is keeping him busy.

Kadota throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Man because Kadota loaded up on that one.

Kadota with shots to the head and body - Man looks very uncomfortable down there.

Kadota is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Man has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Man!

Takashi Kadota is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Man lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Kadota manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Man bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

I've got Kadota winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Takashi Kadota decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
