The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bass fails with the takedown and Mullins counters with a nice double leg into guard. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Mullins looking to control the position here, rather than advance. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Bass has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mullins can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Bass really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Bass is working an open guard so Mullins takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Bass lands a nice leg kick that just misses Mullins's sensitive parts. Mullins throws a lazy head kick and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
That's one minute gone in the round. Excellent takedown into side control there by Mullins. The referee asks Mullins politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Mullins prefers to stall for the moment though. Mullins tries to advance to mount but Bass denies him. Mullins lands a decent elbow from side control. Mullins has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Bass is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Mullins yanks on the arm and Bass is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Mullins.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:53 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Craig Mullins!
