PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Warner Shelton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Manuel Alonso (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alonso comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Narco y Reincidentes - Huracán kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Warner Shelton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Manuel Alonso!
The judges for this bout are Chris Dean, Ron Honeybunn and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Alonso gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Shelton has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Alonso after a bit of a struggle.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Shelton has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Shelton keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Alonso's head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Shelton got a little sloppy there for a moment and Alonso has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Shelton has managed to get both his arms back between Alonso's legs - danger averted.

Shelton drops back looking for a leg! Alonso is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Alonso manages to kick Shelton off! Shelton jumps back into Alonso's guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Alonso is working Shelton over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Still in the clinch, Alonso scores with a nice short uppercut.

Shelton is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Alonso's half guard.

Shelton seems to be working for a kimura but Alonso defends the submission attempt.
Alonso pushes Shelton off looking to stand but Shelton dives back in and keeps control.

Alonso has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Shelton is working away from the top position though.
Shelton throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Shelton gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Alonso throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Shelton.

Shelton is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Alonso pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Alonso shoots in and bounces Shelton off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Manuel Alonso showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Alonso tightens his grip and picks Shelton up, before dumping him to the ground. Shelton manages to land in guard.

Alonso is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Shelton is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Shelton has escaped and now he's on top!

Warner Shelton has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Manuel Alonso.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Alonso is wriggling around but Shelton manages to pass to half guard.

Shelton is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Manuel Alonso is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Alonso kicks Shelton off and gets back to his feet.
Warner Shelton has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Alonso misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

I would just about give that final round to Manuel Alonso.
Well Alonso has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
