Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kirk Angel!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and .




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Herrera throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Angel tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Herrera is in Angel's guard.
Angel is looking to stand up but Herrera isn't so interested in that idea.
Herrera controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Herrera shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Angel pinned against the cage. Angel gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Herrera will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Herrera shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Angel pushes Herrera off looking to stand but Herrera dives back in and keeps control.
Herrera looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Angel is looking to get back to is feet but Herrera passes into side control.

You can see the frustration on Angel's face as Herrera controls the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Miguel Herrera wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Herrera shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Angel but Angel pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Herrera fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Miguel Herrera. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Herrera shoots and misses

so Angel counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Herrera changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Angel tries to avoid it but Herrera manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Angel to the ground. Angel escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Angel defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Herrera.

Herrera scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Herrera is looking to take a break and control but Angel is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Angel regains half guard there - taking advantage of Herrera's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Angel tries to kick Herrera off but Herrera keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Miguel Herrera has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Herrera closes this distance looking for a takedown but Angel circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Miguel Herrera. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Herrera dives in for a single leg takedown but Angel sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Angel can't break the clinch.
Herrera tries for a takedown. No joy.
Angel is trying to force a seperation but Herrera has the dominant position.

Herrera drops down looking for an ankle pick but Angel pulls his leg out and moves away.
Herrera shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Angel pinned against the cage. Angel gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Herrera shoots in for a takedown but Angel shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Herrera rushes Angel and presses him up against the cage.
Angel is trying to break free.
Herrera is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Angel is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Miguel Herrera dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Angel is looking to stand up but Herrera isn't so interested in that idea.
Herrera passes Angel's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Angel is trying to stand up here but Herrera is controlling him well.

Angel wants to get back to his feet.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Miguel Herrera.
Herrera dives in and grabs Angel's left leg, looking for a takedown. Angel pushes down on Herrera's head and hops out.

Angel has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Herrera slows down the pace here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Kirk Angel comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Herrera has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
