PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jaemin Jeong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lucas Lunar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jeong kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Itaewon Freedom - UV feat JY Park. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Jaemin Jeong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 39 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lucas Lunar!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Eddie Farnsworth and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jeong fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Lunar is out of range.
Jeong tried to score with a low kick but Lunar checks it.
Jeong blocks the body kick.
Jaemin Jeong seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lunar throws a wild body kick that Jeong sees coming a mile off.
Jeong uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Lunar.

Jeong shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Jeong was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Jeong looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Lunar is avoiding damage well.
Jeong advances to full mount.
Lunar gets back to half guard.

Jeong is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Lunar defends it well.

Lunar wants to improve his position but Jeong is controlling well.

Jeong seems to be looking for submissions.
Jeong wants to free his trapped foot but Lunar is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Lunar wants to control but Jeong is keeping busy.

Jeong is working for a submission of some sort.

Jeong with the ground and pound but Lunar uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Jeong tries to free his leg and advance position but Lunar is retaining full guard.
Jeong trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Jeong has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Jeong pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Lunar scores with a leg kick.
Lunar swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Jeong fails with a takedown attempt.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Jeong.
Jeong misses with an attempted mid kick.

and Lunar counters with a lovely straight right hand!

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

and Jeong counters with a low kick, right behind Lunar 's knee.
Jeong looks to land a body kick but Lunar moved away.
Jeong shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Lunar defends it nicely.
A clash of legs there as Lunar blocks the low kick.

and Lunar counters with a body kick.
Jeong looks for the body kick but Lunar saw that one coming.

Lunar thows a body shot but no joy.
Jeong pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Jeong misses with a body kick.
Jeong throws out a leg kick but Lunar moves out of range and Jeong only half commits.
Lunar tests Jeong's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Jeong tries to land a front kick but Lunar steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Lunar connects with a right hand. Jeong shakes it off.

Jeong walks into a stiff left hand from Lunar.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Lunar tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Jeong moves out of range as Lunar strikes.
Lucas Lunar is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Lunar connects with a solid leg kick.
Jeong looking to land some kicks to the body here.

Jeong drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Jeong trying to control the action but Lunar is working from the bottom.
Lunar regains half guard.

Jeong thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Lunar's head.
Jeong throws a strike but Lunar avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Jeong slips nicely into half guard.
Jeong missing with the ground and pound from half guard.

Jeong is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Lunar has managed to free his arm - good work.
Jeong is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Lunar!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Lunar avoids a strike by Jeong and manages to complete a very nice reversal in the process, to end up in Jeong's guard! Fantastic escape!
Jeong wants to sweep but no luck.
Lunar is stalling in the full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jeong working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Lunar doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Lunar manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Jeong has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Lunar is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Jeong.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Jeong is trying to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Lucas Lunar will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Lunar fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
A slapping leg kick lands for Jeong.
Jeong throws a head kick but Lunar moves out of range.
Lunar scores with a leg kick.
Jeong takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Jeong will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Jeong avoids the head kick by Lunar.
Lunar moves out of range of the body kick.
Nice defenses there by Jeong.

Lunar keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Jeong.
Jeong moves away from the strike by Lunar.
Lunar connects with an inside leg kick.
Jeong uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Lunar.
Jeong attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Good leg kick by Jeong there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Lunar dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Jeong. That did some damage!

and Lunar counters with a good, hard body kick but Jeong shrugs it off.

and Lunar connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Jeong takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
A punch combination from Lunar misses.
Lunar looks to land a right hand but Jeong moved out of range.
A lazy left from Lunar finds it's target.
A low kick from Jeong is predictable there
and Lunar counters with a nice uppercut.
Lunar keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Lunar throws a right hand that Jeong ducks under and follows up with a left that Jeong also avoids with ease.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lunar checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.

Jeong closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Lunar struggling a bit here.
Lunar is looking for a sweep.
Lunar sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Lunar is not content to let Jeong control the position.
Lunar is looking to improve his position.

Jeong throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lunar wants to control but Jeong is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Lunar has his hands clasped together around Jeong's back. He's all about the action.
Jeong sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Lunar defending well though.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Jeong wants to pass to mount but Lunar is defending the position.

Lucas Lunar comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Lunar has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

In his post fight interview, Lucas Lunar started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
In defeat, Jaemin Jeong stepped up to the mic, saying 'I can't stand losing. I'll be back in the gym as soon as possible, working my ass off to make sure I never have to feel like this again.'.
