Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Dexter Leigertwood! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Lim Hyun Gyu! The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, David Hoff and Dirk Anderson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Leigertwood closes the distance and pushes Gyu back into the cage. Leigertwood keeps control of Gyu as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Leigertwood's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Leigertwood closes the distance and clinches. Leigertwood jumps guard.
Gyu drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Leigertwood dives on top into guard. Gyu throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Leigertwood advances to half guard. Gyu actively working from the bottom here. Gyu looking for a kimura from the bottom but Leigertwood passes into side control! Leigertwood trying to control the position but Gyu is working away. Gyu is being controlled here. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Leigertwood has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. We've been hearing good reports from Leigertwood's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Leigertwood moves into full mount! Gyu can't escape the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Leigertwood tries to control but Gyu wriggling away. Gyu really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Leigertwood. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Gyu is looking to improve his position but Leigertwood isn't that keen on the idea. Leigertwood looking to control but Gyu is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Leigertwood sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Gyu is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Gyu tries to get back to half guard but can't. Leigertwood working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. Leigertwood takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.
Gyu is keeping busy.
Leigertwood is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Gyu with him. Gyu is trying to defend but Leigertwood has an arm under the chin now! Gyu grimaces and is forced to tap out!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:54 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Dexter Leigertwood! Dexter Leigertwood retains his welterweight title! A victorious Dexter Leigertwood thanked his army of followers in his post fight interview, telling people to make sure they follow him on Twitter. In defeat, Lim Hyun Gyu stepped up to the mic, saying 'he was the tougher man tonight he deserved the win'.
